Although i like the transition 59 Strat best
With Strats, specs were (at least notionally) longer lasting:
54 - 59 1 piece maple necks (bodies changed from Ash to Alder in 56)
59-62 slab Rosewood board
62-65 Veneer Rosewood board
Necks tended to get thinner as the sixties dawned - though the last pre-CBS necks were a little thinker.
While you may have preferences - a CS guitar won’t necessarily be in line with these generalisations, as the end user - or dealer - can spec whatever they want.
I know it’s a cliche - but you really need to play lots and decide what suits you best.
All Strats from 54 to 65 are potentially good - just which you prefer - Ref CS versions then you can mix and match a bit with other options - So they maintain a vintage vibe/character, but various custom options are available to optimize the playing performance - Many great players have had mod work carried out on their old Fenders - CS are just building such mods in to a vintage replica
Howabout a 71?
- but I've always fancied a 1961 with a rosewood board, in lake placid blue where its yellowed and turned that lovely metallic turquoise/teal colour.
