slab boards rarely, if ever, have flat sawn necks, because if they bulge (as flat sawn can) the slab pops off....
fender slabs were 99% rift or 1/4 sawn.

I thought most old fender necks necks were flat sawn?... may be wrong... I’m sure folk will put me right!...

Mine is all satin with no rust so it's a slightly different look which is why I thought they'd look good in the same photo.

Get that vinegar or patio cleaner out!
Better get the neck finished before the fingerboard falls off I guess!
Leo must have spent days and endless hours picking wood that is the right grain orientation then tapping it and stress testing to make sure those bloody rosewood boards stayed put

the middle ones are varying degrees of rift dawn, but with tool marks parallel to the fretboard join.
like @customkits kits alludes to. I don’t think Fender worried too much about it, just got a load of mostly flatsawn maple and used all the variability within that. If you get a big blank of flatsawn maple the bits closer to the edge will often be more riftsawn, but Leo wasn’t the sort to waste it.
luckily maple is often stiff enough that either will be stable
i don’t think I have ever seen a vintage quartersawn neck

Leo was a penny pincher even mixing slot head and philips screws on one guitar, he didn't care imo

I should come clean and point out that the ONE thing thats not vintage correct is the radius... 7.25" to 9.25" compound... and its fecking glorious to play... With the profile I will let @customkits explain that one as my description of "best neck ever" probably wont satisfy the masses.
Cleaned up the bridge a little, just to get rid of the rust (it'll rust again after a few sweaty gigs tho')
Waiting on some compensated saddles, period correct knobs and a decent neck plate... Other than that its done
