FS/FT 1959 Les Paul Special - players grade guitar - SOLD
What's Hot
For sale is my players grade 1959 Les Paul special in TV yellow. Some of you may remember this one from my initial NVGD a while back. The story goes that I bought this guitar as a restoration project for my birthday, it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. The guitar was sent off to the forums Junior expert
@miserniel who fully restored the guitar back to it's original state. I sourced a number of vintage parts to complete it and found myself with a wonderful guitar.
The main changes to note:
- Guitar has been faithfully refinished in an aged tv yellow. (naturally aged thin nitro lacquer),
@miserneil is a genius. The lacquer has lovely checking and looks excellent. - Faber aged bridge, Weighs exactly the same as the originals.
- Tuners - not sure if original or not as they look correct but with new buttons.
-Fake 58 wiring harness with bumblebee caps.
- Original Neck and body
-Original p90's from Yuuki which sound fantastic. These are late 50's and have lovely clarity and bite.
- Original pickguard
- Late 80's early 90's brown Gibson case included.
Main things to note are this guitar has had work hence the price, The neck was broken towards the body (common on 59's and fixed many years ago) and the body had two humbucker routes. Im also certain the ears on the headstock we're restored too but their is no breaks on the headstock. During the restoration we decided to move the neck pickup into the V2 position. Its now stable and works great. Please also note the electronics cavity has been left unfinished as a throwback to show the guitars various previous colours. This guitar is super light and resonant and the neck is slim and fast. The Brazilian board is turning a lovely dark brown / black and the guitar has undergone a fret dress by Neil making it a real dream to play.
Overall this is a wonderful guitar. I've tried to price it as fairly as i can considering the work and time that's been spent. I've noticed custom shop reissues are going for not much less. Why have a modern reissue when you can have genuine late 50's Mahogany paired with late 50's p90's. The guitar has all the vintage mojo and sounds terrific, The neck pickup in particular is just wonderful, creamy and very bluesy, The bridge pickup has plenty of bite, theirs a reason p90's are so sought after. The finish one this guitar will continue to age also. In the time I've had it the checking has got better and better. If you are unfamiliar with Neil's work please check out his Instagram as it is truly top notch.
Im based in Bristol and looking for collection only. Any questions drop me a pm and happy to answer, I also have pictures of the restoration.

Neil's work on the TV finishes is, in my humble, that good I've simply come to expect it to be right.
I wish you nothing but good with this guitar, and in doing so apologise for my intrusion into your sale.
Neils work on this guitar is fantastic, the body has lots of checking which really adds to its mojo.

With regards to the neck tenon post repair i will take some pics of it today and send them over to you, PM me an email if you like and I'll send them over directly to you.
however I was offered a guitar by a fellow fretboarder which i have always lusted after and unfortunately I can't afford to have all that money tied up in 2 guitars.
I hope that it does stay on forum so maybe on day I can buy it back
Whoever does buy it will not be disappointed, late 50's p90's and old 50's mahogany make for a bloody fantastic sound!
