  • Hi,
I'm from the sunny end of England in Hampshire. My  username is the name of the pet dog who i lost 3 years ago. I enjoy playing in a covers band so have no delusions of grandeur of becoming the next rock god. lol
I have an Orange rig, several guitars: Gibson Les Paul, USA Fender Strat & and use an Epiphone LP and Roland cube for messing around on at home.
My musical taste is varied so I dont have a particular no 1 song but guess Fleetwood Mac stuff is high on the list.

  • Hi All, I wanted to take a couple of minutes to introduce myself to the forum so I've started with the 5 standard questions ...

Where did you username come from? Really boring I'm afraid ... 'jed' is just an abbreviation from my name and 2718 is an old work telephone extension number ... yawn.  I should have used JohnWaneDastard, which is an anagram of my full name (Jonathan Edwards) ... but too late to change user name now I guess.

Where in the world/country are you? Macclesfield UK ... home of little silk buttons, the Macc Lads, and with it's very own semi-permanent rain cloud.  Love it here though and there's a good live music scene too!

What's your main musical ambition?  I've been a keen electric and acoustic 6-string player and singer for 30+ years and I'm just happy to be playing and doing some occasional gigs.  I'm putting a new band together right now, so getting that gigging is my main focus at the moment.

Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?  The real special one is my Sobell acoustic ... I've had it for years and I've never played anything better.

Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?  Just one ... ouch ... tricky ... but I'm a big Bowie fan so I'll say "Drive in Saturday" ... not really a guitar track but I love it ... absolutely no idea what it's about though ... please explain if you've worked it out!

Look forward to chatting with you guys in the future.  Cheers, 'Jed'

  • Hi there!

It came from a dark side of myself, the Mr. .

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    England, UK

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

To connect with other musicians and to play around the world for large interactive concerts, where the audience is as much part of the music as the performers are.

    Faith acoustic guitar

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

You can call me Al by Paul Simon

  • Q1:  Where did you username come from?

Merciful-Evans was a version of me I created 15 years ago to write verse. Weirdly, I couldn't write as 'myself'.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

Portsmouth UK, .....though sometimes I'm elsewhere.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

To delight & surprise (me, if no one else)

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

Rickenbacker 650 Colorado (presently with a dead bridge pickup)

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

'Hard To Handle' from Grateful Dead's 'Fallout From The Phil Zone' album

  • Hi everyone!

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

My immeasurably vast imagination. I really am that interesting, folks! ;-)

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

I'm based in London, originally from near Cambridge

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

To be able to sweep pick, despite my slow, stubby fingers! I should probably practice more often TBH! Actually, I'd settle for my left hand and right hand working in the same time signature... I used to play live quite regularly, and would love to do so again if I can find the time and some people to play with.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

Tricky. I'd have to say my Maxon OD808. It's just so useful. Put it in front of a cranked amp - instant Megadeth. Put it in front of a decent distortion pedal and it's a great little mid boost for solos. I know they're a "marmite" pedal, but I love mine.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Haha well as it's what happens to be playing at the moment, Motorhead's Overkill. First band I ever saw live, and probably my favourite track of theirs. To me it's everything that Motorhead signifies in one song. Every time the drums kick back in after a false ending I jump up in my seat.

  • Q1:  Where did you username come from?

I used to go caving a lot.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Norfolk, UK

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

    To get better.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear?

Probably my Helix that goes into a pair of Genelecs.

    Q5:  Your #1 ever track ?

Varies. If you forced me to choose...Master of Puppets.

Hey, been lurking for a little while and figured I’d jump in. Been getting back into playing after letting it slide for a long time and now can’t understand how I ever stopped in the first place  =)

Q1: Where did your username come from?
    Name/initial

Q2: Where in the world/country are you?
    South Wales

Q3: What’s your main musical ambition?
My rockstar dreams faded 20+ years ago so now it’s just to be able to play a little better than I did the year before

Q4: Your “best” bit of gear?
Probably my Guild D55, it just ‘fits’

    Q5: Your #1 ever track?
I could spend the rest of the day trying to answer this one and would still be changing my mind. I’ve had Will Oldham songs stuck in my head for days so I’ll go with My Home is the Sea by Superwolf for now.

    Hi Everyone,

Im Simon, just shy of 30, down in the rainy southwest, pretty new to guitar and online forums but very keen to learn all I can from everyone else!

1]. My Username is unfortunately very boring, but my memory has fallen off a cliff... so its just my initials..so I don't forget it

2]. Sit on the M4 West for a few hours and end up In glorious Somerset

3]. Always been musical per se; Played the violin in my youth, orchestras and the like, but grew up listening to Van Halen, Metallica and Dream Theater and always promised myself id learn; FINALLY I'm doing it.

Q4:  My 'best' bit of gear is my first amp - and a bit of an eBay bargain but packs a hell of a punch. 6505 212 Combo and I've put some EVH G12s in it and fresh tubes. Definitely a benefit of living in the countryside, with no super close neighbours.

Q5:  My number 1 has to be the one inspiring track I grew up as a kid listening to thinking WOW, how cool would it be to be able to play that; Van Halen - Eruption

  • Just joined to hear a little bit about playing the guitar. I am rapidly approaching the age of 52 and have always wanted to learn the guitar but have no experience of it whatsoever. Added to this is that I live in a house with paper thin walls so have nowhere that I can practice either. I do like a challenge!

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

Thought of it while signing up.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Merseyside/Cheshire,North West England.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

    To play a guitar competently.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

None at the moment, but hope that will change in the near future.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

I love many guitar based tracks but a particular favourite is The Searchers version of When You Walk in The Room.

Its never too late.  If you have the will, you WILL learn.. Go for it.

Its not easy at first, theres several humps you have to get over..  Just keep on practicing and I assure you, you will.. Your fingers will hurt, but you will get used to that.

Best advice..  After you learn the basics, when you start to learn a song, play it at the  best speed you can without making mistakes, once you get that then slowly increase the speed...

  • Heya! I thought I'd sign up. How is everyone doing? I'm a big Marshall fan, and I love delay pedals and post-rock. But I have a real soft spot for AC/DC and The White Stripes. Although I quite like Jeff Beck too.

I make porn for a living. The rest of the time I hang out with my friends and we write blues music. But like, legitimate blues music. Not the silly modern stuff.

    Anyway, hey guys!

    Hi Jack,

I only started learning last March at the age of 51, so have full empathy of how you feel at this moment in time.  If you have any questions feel free to ask, I'm just 9 months ahead of where you are now.  Here are my thoughts below

    1. I'm loving it, should've done it years ago
    2. I'm really loving it
    3. I'm really, really loving it

Not being a musical type, I never thought I'd even be able to put two chords together to make a tune but I now know of about 20 chords, can play about 10 competently at speed, I still struggle with barre chords and have just started to learn power chords.

I can make a tune, I can strum and play punk (!).

Found G relatively easy but didn't get D for ages, I'm talking probably two months of constant practice, 15 mins to begin with whilst my fingers toughened up, to about 60-90 mins a day now.  Found E easy enough, but I can still make 'A' sound out of tune. Still struggle a bit with C and have got lazy by using C add 9

And whilst I can strum a few tunes, I know I haven't even scratched the surface yet.  When I see people finger-picking I think WTF and feel a million years away from being able to do that stuff.

I've learned my limitations (fingers struggle to stretch), but I'm working on it.

I know what a Boss Katana 50 is!

I've started to learn what an effects pedal does

I know the difference between a Strat, Tele and a Les Paul

All the best and remember that even at the age of 52, you're not too old and give it a few months and you will start to play a tune that sounds something like 'When You Walk In The Room', just don't expect it to sound the same as blokes who've been playing for 40 years or musicians who do it professionally.

I also agree with everything @Rabs says above.

It's usually trans porn, but the sensitive stuff. Women are our target market. Sometimes I do the occasional guy on guy scene but it can get a bit mucky, so I tend to raise my fees for those ones. Brillo pads don't buy themselves!

Hi everyone.  I'm not sure why I haven't joined this forum in the past but a friend mentioned it the other night and thought I should join for a bit of social interaction

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

Thought of it when I signed up.  It's my first initial

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Bedfordshire, South East England

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

Just to have more musical fun, play with more people and meet like minded people

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

That's like choosing your favourite child.  If the house was burning down the Japanese strat I bought 30 years ago would be grabbed so I guess that's the most important to me

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

I don't really do fave tracks - it would vary depending on my mood, day of week and time of day.  Probably more based on the song rather than it's guitar so something with a real emotional hook
