What was your best ever purchase?

What's Hot
This is about any musical instrument or piece of musical equipment.

I am not asking what was the best item you have ever bought.  I am asking what is the best value item you have ever bought.

For me it has to be a 5 octave Casio keyboard which I think cost me £25.

I recently picked up a sitar for 70 quid just along the road from me after a hopeful 1-result search on Gumtree. Rather pleased with that - wanted one since I was a kid!

I also found an old Hohner Pianet in a local market a few years back that I got for 30 quid. It was just too big and heavy to be any use so I sold it shortly afterwards for about 350, so that was pretty good value.

The ibanez version of the Floyd Key, works for Gotoh's perfectly, and given that all my double lockers are Gotoh, intonation is now just as easy as conventional screw adjustment

It's hard to say really, everything I own was well priced, functional, and are all pieces of a musical jigsaw that exists inside of my head. The whole setup would break down if you removed one item.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

  • 3 things for me:

reaper, just opened up a world of possibility
helix. So useful, interface, outboard dsp etc
dtxpress 4 drum kit. Learning drums made a lot of guitar concepts suddenly make sense.

  • My two K-Line guitars, love them both and they cover my electric needs, the Callaham trem was also a massive worthy upgrade on the Springfield. I've not been tempted by other guitars since - well apart from a 1990 Black Beauty Les Paul Custom at CCGX.

Might be my Nord electro 5d. Was a considered purchase as not cheap, but I've probably played more gigs with it than any guitar I've ever owned, it sounds spot on, is small and light and has never let me down yet.

The other contender might be the Waldorf Blofeld I recently picked up here for £220. What it can do for that price is a real bargain, and I can attach it to the empty space on top of my electro for expanded synth capabilities. I've also got a 'better' or more highly regarded synth than the Blofeld, but when it comes to value for money there is no comparison.

This plus my THR5, everyone loves katanas, this sounds perfect for home and sits in my tv unit and missus munckee likes the look of it.

Also my overdrives are a joyo sweet baby into a joyo vintage overdrive total cost £28 used for both.

  • Coloured XLR cables for our PA/mics/DI. Makes stage setup and pack-up a million times easier! Well worth whatever I paid (Van Damme cable and Neutrik plugs too).

Charvel So-Cal is insanely good for the price (in fact it's just insanely good).

Wis'd.  I was going to say a LP, bought 25 years ago, earned it's money back within a year of playing in a band and I still have it.

But having worn sets of ACS moulded earplugs for at least 15 years at concerts, rehearsals, trade shows, motorbike rides, flights and nights sleeping next to an airport... this.  I'm on my second pair and the cost per hour worn is probably single-figure pennies.
