OK, so that was squeaky-bum time.
Linode apparently had a bit of a communication problem with one of their storage arrays, right in the middle of an update to the database table that stores all of our comments. That led to a massive inconsistency in the database file pointers, which meant that MySQL essentially lost track of 95% of the forum content.
Bit of an oopsie, that.
Anyway, managed to track down the problem and repair the table. If you can see this, it's all good.
Apologies for the disruption, folks.
On the bright side, our total downtime for the last 5 years is now 9 hours and 10 minutes, which is still 99.98% uptime.
