I also have a Mexican Jazz roadworn:
I need to get a 5 string quite soon.

Sterling Ray 35 with hipshot tuners and refinished neck tuned DGCFBb
Fretless Squier Bullet with 2 band EQ and flats tuned down a step.
And an old Czech ply upright
I've now replaced the HB1 in the neck with a 'toasterbucker' which sounds - and more importantly looks - much more like the original, without losing the hum cancellation.

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
I’ve since restored it to being a 2 pickup (neck and bridge) model. I also tried the FDV and P-Tone pickups and honestly prefer the stock pickups.

(Can't figure out how to post images in a thread, I'm a moron I'm afraid!)

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?
I’ll bet @HarrySeven has more than a few interesting basses too.
It's utterly wacky - the knob and switch config is mental. It's also rather cool and really nice to play
I've got a fretless 5 in build by a custom maker - it's basically a precision with a load of extra features, but looks completely different and will sound different too. I know a lot of bass players who prefer to go custom and have something specced out rather than by an off the peg bass from one of the big manufacturers. Maybe we know what we want/like more than guitarists.
