Is "dunderhead" a recognised insult?

What's Hot
Is it, and when you pronounce it, is it "dunderhead" or "dunderheid" in a Scottish accent?

Bye!

Accent not necessary.  Emphasis on 1st syllable desirable.

Pretty much any word will be recognised as an insult if you use it in the correct context and tone of voice. :-)

It's a lighthearted jovial insult between known individuals

You'd never get a big hairy nutter of a Glaswegian starting a fight in a bar with the line...."Go on ya big dunderheid yeh"

It's a slightly prissy, old fashioned insult.  Mainly used by people who are too prim to use tougher language, or in a context where cruder language might be inappropriate (eg a teacher who thought he might get in trouble if he called an annoying kid a moron).

@JerkMoans - noted.  I would read that in a clue and assume 'ASS'.

And to think I only joined up here because I was hoping someone could tell me the distance between the end of the neck pocket and the start of the neck HB rout on a Charvel San Dimas.  I never did find out, and now can't remember why I wanted to know in the first place.

I agree, it's a pretty lightweight insult. It would most likely be used by a grandparent or parent lightly scolding a child for losing their jotters type of scenario.

Bawbag, dobber, tube and the classic 4 letter c words for male and female genitalia normally prefixed with 'total' are generally more popular in adult conversation.

It's an insult, but a kind insult. It would imply the person saying it has a level of empathy for the recipient.

Next slight step up would be "Bawbag", again an insult with a certain (albeit slightly less) level of empathy

I personally find the most annoying insult is being called a dumb-ass repetitively, although twat is pretty offensive if it's said with enough emphasis on the 'waaah'.

I'm pretty sure I read it in the old "Oor Willie" comics as a kid.

Wasn't used in a nice way!
