A ducked delay means that while you're still playing, the delayed sound is quieter to avoid it getting messy but when you stop playing the volume of the delay comes back up so you can hear the trail left more clearly.

I use a dual delay on my AX8, left side set to 350ms, the right side set to 500ms. I have it running in Parallel rather than series so it stays out of the way of the dry guitar tone. About 3 audible repeats on each side. Mix set to 100% as it’s in Parallel, level at about -10db

Just use tap tempo, then you can show off your skills to the audience of playing, singing and standing on one leg while bouncing the other one up and down on every button except the one you want, all with your tongue sticking out the side of your mouth like a toddler learning to use scissors.

The key is 100% having a ducking delay as per Dominics post, no ducking and its just a mess.

Current fav setting, shortish delay going into dirt, getting some lovely tones especially with the warthog

Thing with  ot using tap tempo is that it's a total ass to try and make your drummer in time to your repeats.

The Digitech Hardwire DL-8 I acquired recently from a fine chap on here has a 'secret' setting - not sure if it's just how the pedal works or some issue, but the third delay on the selection knob, when set completely to the shortest time, does a lovely glitchy delay that £300 boutique pedals normally give you. So effectively it's saved me buying at least one of those.

    And mallard valves
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Analogue delay; 90ms, single repeat, 40% mix, to thicken. (nearly always on)
    Plus, when needed...
Digital reverse delay; 300ms, two repeats, 30% mix, to lift.
    Plus, when needed...
Analogue delay; maximum triplet value available, repeats skating on the edge of self-oscillation, 50% mix, to visit Mars.
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

I set mine to the click of the sticks at the start of the song... then re-tap it just before the solo as it is inevitably a much different tempo

I now use the 2290 delay in stereo on the AX8 set to 500ms running in series, and I prefer it to my previous settings above ^^
