FS. Fender Princeton II *SOLD*

edited July 2019 in Amps £
So this has to go as I've (impulsively) bought another amp.

It's in really great nick, works perfectly.  Has a Warehouse ET65 speaker, and I have the original Fender.  Has the footswitch for reverb and channel switching.  Great amp for the home, studio or small gigs.  I'd rather you picked the amp up, or I'll meet somewhere within an hours radius of Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

Great amps these - my favourite of all the Rivera-era amps.  Cracking cleans!

    You're not wrong, they're very under-rated.
    Any trial welcome.

I'm kinda pleased you're over in Norfolk or I'd be a bit poorer now.  ;-)

Have a bump from me... I think that for £450 it's a nice little amp with loads of potential. As well as reverb and master volume which really comes in handy these days.

Why thank you kind Sir.  You're right of course.  The 80's II series amps have always been under-rated, I think unfairly.  The clean sound from this little combo is as good as any 'modern' fender today, and it's hand wired.  I've owned a genuine 68 Princeton, a 65 Reissue Deluxe and a Pro Reverb and this amp is as good as any of those.  Maybe a bit more versatile.  Some critisise the Drive channel but at lower gain settings its very usable.

I think that even if I were to be picky enough about the overdrive channel, which I would probably rarely use. The fact that it is a tag board wired amp, gives you some amount of flexibility to improve it and there are some mods out there, since this circuit as a bit of a niche following.

I agree, it's a really nice, interesting and compact amp, from an era where fender was still building some interesting stuff. In my opinion a really good deal.

Is Grantham do-able in an hour?

The cleans on fhese are very good indeed, the drive channel isn't great IMHO, but there are some usable tones in there in a Boogie Mark sort of way.  As @BluesyDave says, keep the gain levels down on the drive channel and it's pretty good - and add pedals for anything else.

The Deluxe Reverb II has a marginally more versatile drive channel as it doesn't share the same EQ as the clean channel, but it's still in the same tonal area.

Either way, this is stonking value - my PRII sold for £700 a year ago, and my DRII for £800.
