Two cars I've had that I miss, particularly in this weather.  A Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible and a Lexus IS250C convertible.  The Saab was the quicker of the two, but the Lexus was the more comfortable and luxurious.

My 1969 TR6, I rebuilt it ground up from a scrapper and ran it as a daily drive for 8 years. It's still on the road too, the third oldest in UK.

    Volvo 850 estate.
I ran it to 280,000 miles and sold it to the tour manager of Hard-Fi. Apparently he collected Volvo's and mine was one of highest mileage 850's at the time

    I always liked my XR3.

I console myself by having an Elise now, though.

I've always wanted a Land Rover, so maybe that's next on the list.

I'll admit I'm enjoying Emp's car epic. It's also got me thinking.

Which of the cars in your past do you miss?

I'll kick off. I passed my test and spent several years driving a Citroen AX GT. It wasn't fast (a 320 TDi would absolutely bury it in a straight line) but I've never driven anything since that comes close to the feeling of connection it had on a familiar twisty road.

I've thought many times that it must be rose tinted specs, but was gratified to discover that Chris Harris has one (or at least did).  So there are at least two of us who think the same

The car doesn't have to have been yours. The aforementioned AX wasn't mine.
I had an AX for about 5 years.  Great fun.

I got given mine, because the engine was on its way out.  It was originally a 1.1 litre, but I had to replace the engine after 3 months or so.  It was a lot easier to find a 1.4 (as used in the GT) as that was used in the ZX and BX as well.  An AX with a 1.4 is great fun.  I could beat pretty much anything way from lights.

I had an AX. Bought pretty cheaply from Steve Smith Motors in Netherton* it was very reliable. The tiny and slightly wobbly body gave an impression of speed without having to actually go fast. Bit like having a go kart you could take on the motorway.
Sold it on to my nephew for £100 and it lasted him a couple more years.
The most ultra reliable car I ever had was a Nissan Almera and you still see plenty about. I don't know why I got rid.

    * local reference point that might be of passing interest to maybe two people on here.

To be fair it was the Clio drivers who were worse...!
It was the Peugeot 205GTi which was best known for being found upside down in a field :).

My BX had the twin-carb version of the same engine, and it was plenty in a car that weighed at least 50% more...
Yeah, massive lift-off oversteer (particularly the 1.9 version) followed by backwards though a hedge and onto its roof. A lad I was at school with killed himself in one, on that cheery note.....

There's six that I miss, I reckon. My BMW E28 M5, Renault A610, Daimler Sovereign Series 1, MGB GTV8, a Gilbern Invader, my first TVR Griffith, a 5-litre brute, and a first generation BMW X5, the 4.4 V8 version.

    These.
I sold the 2002 Touring in the foreground and got the white one in the background cheap as it was LHD.
Unfortunately that one was like a red rag to a bull for some idiots. And the badges got nicked too. C***s.
But they went like shit off a shovel.

Much later I had a Merc 1.8 saloon, the 190E model I think - an automatic and the best car I ever had BY FAR.

When I go out delivering every day, I miss all of them. I don't know why, as I am aiming for them.

Love old BMWs, great tail-lights! Weren't the Touring models quite rare?

My modded Mustang, had tons of fun in that

68 Volvo that I had to sell when the recession bit, was my dream car and all set to mod the hell out of, had bought a Lexus donor to take the V8 out of, but food & mortgage called dibs. A couple of car changes ago I was sifting websites and saw it for sale... super excited, phoned up, but missed it by an hour. Still gutted..

My 1984 Ford Sierra 2.0 Ghia. Which sounds quite swish, but I bought it in 2002 for £300 (had around 40K on the clock). Mate of my dad owned it. He was a mechanic and had moved into sales so had a Merc company car. But kept his beloved Sierra in storage. So it was in excellent condition (ish) and well looked after. Hadn't had a car of my own before (though passed test in 1990) and loved my new freedom. Did 30,000 miles in a year and a half. Did a round trip commute to work of 80 miles every day in it. Alas eventually the engine had enough and the car went to the scrap. But I loved that car and the time in  my life it represented.

Also the 1973 Ford Capri 1600 my dad owned for a bit. I learned to drive in it in 1989/90 and was hoping to have it as my car. Alas some collector put a note on the windscreen and my dad ended up selling it to him for a little more than he bought it for.

Peugeot 205 GTI. I had 3 over the years, the last one had the Mi16 engine out of the Peugeot 405 Mi16/Citreon BX GTI, and it was a rocket.

Stupidly sold them all, and these days a good one costs a fortune.

Yes, rare enough. The white one was an 1802. Now they are worth in excess of 10 times what I sold them for.
I wanted to get the fuel-injected 2002 tii after the white one but economics meant a cheaper-to-insure (and run) motor.
And the parts were sometimes a rip-off; Bosch brake cylinders in a BMW box = twice the price.

I've been in a Porsche 991 GT3 on a taxilap around the north loop of the Nurburgring. This is the same car and driver I had.
So if the thread is about car's I've been in, and now miss, That's the pinnacle.
Other cars were a Triumph GT6 with a 2.5litre block and uprated carbs, a succession of Saab Classic 900 and 9000 (earlier Saabs were built so well and didn't break down) and 9-5 Aero. Oh! And a Jaguar XJR6 - that's the fastest thing I've had - and it sat 4 or 5 at a push, in complete luxury.
Now I'm onto MX5. I don't think retrospectively much, but it would be nice to compare the MX5 and GT6 back to back.

My dad's Citroën BX 19 GTI, lovely car, was hoping to get it fixed up and use it myself until some scrote torched it outside his workshop.

My Honda S2000, easily the most fun car I've ever driven, but I'm a family man now.

My band - Crimson on Silver  For sale - Blackstar HT-5S

Gear - Guitars, amps, effects and shizz. Edited for Phil_aka_Pip, who is allergic to big long lists.
