anyone play/played a 7 string with a high A string rather than a low B?

Apparently that is how 7 strings started. Just wondering if anyone had a go at that?

I'm making a 7 string guitar at the moment so I'm just mulling things over

    Not electric, but Paul Galbraith has an 8 string acoustic w/ a low A and a high E added around the standard EADGBE.

    For it to work properly you really need a 006 for the high A, I tried using a 007 but it was too fragile, iirc you can get the 006 singles from the US

    I have an 8 string guitar that's tuned with a low B and a high A.  It's a multiscale, fan fret ranging from 25.5 to 23.5.
    The middle six are 10's but I go for a 9 for the high A.  Don't have any trouble with the string being to fragile and tuning stability is great.
    I think maybe the different scale length helps the higher tuning.  As for the low B, if I'm honest a slightly longer scale would probably by better.
    That being said, I've fairly small hands, so 25.5 to 23.5 is great for me.
