Mac SSD upgrade advice please

spark240spark240 Frets: 2073
My Mac has a 1Tb standard HD in it, Ive added a 250G SSD drive and I want to put the OS and my Studio One Daw on it....

Ive seen tons of vids etc but they just dont seem to apply to my situation.

I can't do a straight "restore" from Disk utility as there is too much data.

Help please ?

Boot using command - option - R and load SSD with a fresh install of OSX via the net. If SSD not recognized use disk utility to make the partition before loading OSX to it

Ok...so I’ve done that and now it’s asking if I want to transfer anything onto it...

    i have 4 options,
    Applications,
A folder with my name ,
    Other Files and folders
    Computer and networks setting.

    what you think?

This has gone slightly wrong.....The new SSD is all in and has a new OS install on it, I transferred some stuff but my DAW doesnt seem to have come across, and Im having to reset all of my settings etc, its like a new computer is this right?

Its booting from the new SSD, I can still see my original drive and contents, so as yet nothing is lost, just a bit messed up.

Have I dont it correctly do you think?

That's how I would have done it. New OS on the SSD, clean load no junk from the previous OS. Then reinstall programs such as DAW.

Although ghosting \ imaging drives saves a lot of time it's not an option if the new drives smaller plus you don't want to transfer a lot of legacy junk in an old OS anyway, a clean load is generally a better idea
