It might be a motorway mileage muncher in its previous life.

    That’s a good thing.
Do OAPs do lots of motorway mileage?!?

    Congrats Emp!

Still the best thread on here ever though. I'm sort of sad to see it end (did I say end?)

For what it's worth, tonking around Autotrader because of this thread, I've discovered that a car I've always lusted after is now down to the kind of price I'd consider actually paying for a car.

That car is the Jag XK8. I remember my housemate's dad showing up while we were at uni in his beater BMW, giving it to said housemate and getting her to drive him into town with a briefcase full of cash and coming back with a brand new XK8, and it completely blew my mind at the time.

Looks like you can get fairly decent ones for about £3k. That's mental.

    I saw a Jeep with a V8 for £340 last week.

Worth it for a week's hire value even if it blows up after 7 days.  And then get at least half that back in scrap value.

I think you’d have to be mental - or very brave - to buy one for £3k ...
    ;)

Agreed, nice car,  it running costs would be challenging.

    Oh....   You appear to misunderstand....

This isn't the end of the thread....  This is just a temporary car that gives me the wheels I need to find my real car...
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

It’s hard to imagine the punchline to any epic thread being “2009 Honda Civic” - but there it is.

I very nearly bought the Volvo S40.  I took it for a drive.  Lovely car.  The problem was that by the time we got back, ten minutes later, my back was soaked in sweat.  Black leather seats are not all they're cracked up to be.

Wait, did you just reject the Volvo because of your sweaty back?

Did you turn on the air con? And that you live in Wales? Not New South Wales, Australia?

Surely there is a real proper mechanical reason?

Leather is great, any dirt is easily wiped, vs fabric where the sweat just gets into between the thread and then smells.

Wait…forget I said that, congrats on the Honda!

I'm looking forward to getting the spanners out to be honest (not wanting to tempt fate).  I already have plans...   Change the clutch fluid and adjust.  Polish the headlights, lift up the NSF bumper mounting, replace the manky gear knob, respray the silver plastic trim, update the software, clean up the exhaust tailpipes.  Fix the weird way the inner door panels bend in and out when the windows start down or up....

    I’ll miss this thread...

Have you agreed for the air-con to be fixed or just a regas?

Not trying to piss on your chips but in my experience a car that’s for sale with the AC not working usually needs more than a regas or the previous owner/seller would have done it.

I haven't actually.  And that's the main concern I have.  That's why he's not getting the bulk of the money until the AirCon is working.  He seems a decent guy actually so I don't think it will be a problem.

And on page 317, we’re back to the Avensis Diesel Estate ....
