Just as a topic of conversation .. If you were buying a "Made in the UK" Electric guitar - who would you go to?

Can be partcaster/assembler or genuine luthier

I own examples from half of the aforementioned... but someday hope to tick them all off the list, so to speak.

NB - this is all talking electrics, for acoustics I am less knowledgeable, but Lowden look like they know what they are doing... edit, and oh yeah, Atkin of course!

    Probett.

I like the look Jaydee’s SGs as well, though I’ve not played one.

Mike Vanden made some amazing jazz guitars.

Probett, Feline, Baccus and StoneWolf, in no particular order although Stonewolf are probably the most original, designwise, there.

Waghorn, Carillion, Feline, Daemoness, Gray, Patrick Eggle

This is only going on reputation as I've had my hands on exactly 0 UK made instruments that weren't Gordon Smiths.

As far as putting my money in goes I've had a deposit in with Daemoness for two years and five months.

Personally I'd go for Feline for something new and shiny and Jeff Beer for an awesome relic.

I could name someone to avoid!

Mark Bailey made the best guitar that I have, so I'd certainly be talking to him if I was in the market for something like that again.

Like "what" exactly, you might ask?

Like "exactly what I asked for"!

He built exactly what I asked for in terms of looks, sounds and feel.  It wasn't a blue version of his model XX1, or model YY1 but with different p'ups, or (etc) - ie a variation on a standard model.  It was a one-off (well, tbh, it was the second-off).

So I'd trust him to do something similar again.

If I was after something more standard, and wanted to see examples of the luthier's work beforehand, and talk to other customers, than I'd be heading to Feline for LP-alikes, or another builder for types that they specialise in.
    :)
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Feline .... for producing masterpieces on a classic theme.
Carillion ... for doing awesome things with gorgeous wood.
Stonewolf ... for being totally original and gloriously 'off the wall'.

Apart from older Gordon Smiths, the only UK guitars I've tried are Feline, which are marvellous.  I very much like the look of Eggle's current models, Probett and Ivison guitars.

Hadn't heard of Carillion until this thread, the designs are a bit modern for me but the workmanship looks extremely impressive.

Bit biased because I'm thinking of selling one, but it is stunning.

I totally read that as 'Terry Wogan'

I played a Feline for the first time on Tuesday, and I'm currently trying to think of a way to afford it...
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/
