Hi there,
I'm looking at getting an Ibanez SA 460 in Sapphire Blue. I currently play a Yamaha Pacifica 112v nstural. I want the Ibanez cos I just want something new and I want a HSS guitar that's not too expensive, looks great and is easy to play, and has locking tuners.
Tried one out in the shop and the only thing is is that the single coils and humbuckers are very similar volumes, which I know is what most people want, but I would like them how they are on my Pacifica where the humbucker is way louder and beefier than the single coils. This is basically so I can just switch between lead and rhythm on the guitar. I dont want to use a pedal to do it as I'm already singing and operating a beat buddy pedal as well.
So is there a way easily and cheaply get the pickups to have a much bigger differential in sound. Is it just a case of lowering the single coil and raising the humbucker or both, or it is something way more difficult than that?
Thanks

The bridge pickup is mounted on a ring, so the only risk is if you lower the pickup too much and it will pop off the screws.
The middle and neck pickups are mounted directly to the body so you can just screw them down, don’t use too much force though, there probably will be a bit of foam under each pickup to stop them rattling around, so if they won’t go low enough you can try a slimmer bit of foam, but I’m confident that raising the bridge and lowering the neck/middle should get you where you want to be.
Alternatively you can look at a beefier bridge pickup but try the height adjustment trick first.
