I really liked the Martin Black Smoke series, tried a few in Guitar Village and they were all beautifully sweet little instruments. You can pick them up for around a grand used now.

If you can find one definitely check it out.

I love mine. I also play it at the pub acoustic nights as not only does it sound great, it's plenty loud and its compact size is a bonus when we're all crammed round a couple tables.

my perfect sofa guitar is a Casino. Acoustic but not loud, easy to play and light to hold. Mine is permanently in my living room.

What size did you go for @Chris_J ? The onboard electronics were a few more quid, worth while?

You can easily use that J45 of yours on the sofa. Reckon you will regret selling that beauty

Small guitars sound like small guitars. Can be nice for fingerpickin’ but you have to accept that you give something up for strumming. I currently have an Atkin 0 for the couch but have had far more expensive small guitars which all sounded...small.  As does the Atkin.

Agree with the suggestion of a J-185 as a comfortable bigger guitar. Love mine.

Or you could just get the best guitar ever designed.....an OM. The only guitar anyone really needs.

I am having serious WTF pangs about putting it up for sale to be fair. We shall see.

I went for a 12 fret join 00, without electronics. I already had a D18 so wanted something smaller and with a completely different vibe.

It replaced an Alvarez parlour which I gave to a friend on long term loan so he could get back into playing again.

I have to go meet a guy in Guildford to sell my 335 today so I may come home via Guitar Village and try a few smaller acoustics

If you're in Guildford Andertons do have a decent selection too. The experience in Guitar Village is far nicer though.

    335 lossage  :(

On the sofa guitar - Breedlove Discovery or Pursuit models, Faith do loads of lovely stuff for well under a grand.

Nice people in Guitar Village - I predict a modest wallet hoovering ! ;)
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

    Hoovering is not the plan.

Research. Does a 00 size still satisfy my aural preferences, do all Parloirs sound like ass, that kind of thing

I bet the E1-00ss can’t be beat. It’s a cracker and the LTD is way cheaper. As far as I can tell it’s the same guitar with sapele BS

Pretty sure Vintage n rare has one.

best small guitar I have ever heard is my Avalon S7-390

Almost all small guitars sound horribly boxy
    Adding a soundport can help

If 00s are too small, 000s or OMs are a great compromise. My Breedlove Mahogany OM/MMe is an excellent all round beater, and not bulky at all.

I was going to tell you about the lovely and rare K Yairi Masterworks parlour I've got up on Reverb at the moment - but it is left-handed. Beautiful balanced and unboxy sound for a true parlour size and if you ever see a right-handed one then it is highly recommended.

I also noticed Brook mentioned - the Torridge is perhaps a bit on the big side for a Sofa guitar - but their small parlour models are fantastic. I had the chance to try out a Bovey and a Clyst when I was down there recently to pick up my new Taw. I think there was a Clyst (cedar / cherry) on sale in London recently for around £1k but it looks like it has been snapped up. The slightly larger Lynn would also be a good bet.

The Blueridge historic series parlours are great value for money and, IMO, would give any Martin 00 V a run for its money. They are not that easy to find but are beautifully made, all solid woods for under £1K new (Hobgoblin music occasionally have them in stock). They feature 48mm wide nuts. I sold my BR-341 to get the Yairi - and my guitar technician Dino has never forgiven me!

Yeah I think if I find the Parlour sound still not my think then a more knockabout-worthy OM than my Baranik it will probably be

I had a little trip out today (to sell my 335, but he wanted to meet at the pub next to Andertons so...)

Had a mooch in Andertons acoustic section (after literally nearly bumping into The Captain, Danish Pete, and Tore from TC Electronic as they entered the pub)

    Gibson 00 Studio was meh

    Martin -15 series were good

Martin ‘Road’ series (or something - mexican made ones?) less so

    Not much 00-sized to try.

Went up the road to Guitar Village - huge stock as always.

Tried a variety of ace-sounding OM/000-ish things under a grand that were all great in differnt ways.

Also a Guild M-120 that was just awful.

    Things that stood out:

Eastman e80 (I think) - fantastic, and felt like great value for money.

Eastman E1 00 SS Ltd - very sofa-able and yes it sounds like a small guitar but it had plenty else going for it so I liked it.

If I hadn’t also played something else I may have left with that Eastman.

The something else I’m geeting schtum about because I may yet phone them up and have it lol. But it was more money and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving with it. But I might have it. We shall see.

    Red ones are better.

Not only did the resulting purchase suit playing on said sofa, it also tucks nicely away ready for action thereupon
