Hawkwind! 50th Anniversary tour......

Last night at the Albert Hall in Manchester.

I was very, very apprehensive tbh. Must have seen them a couple of dozen times and it's always a lottery.
If the band were in the bar beforehand, it was usually terrible - endless, over-refreshed tune free jamming.
But when they're on it, it's magical.
Obviously lineup dependant as well, you're never quite sure exactly what you're going to get.

Luckily, they were fantastic last night. Tim Blake on synths and theramin helped,  the band were tight, the new stuff was bearable and plenty of classics.
The venue helped too, it's a magnificent space with a great, modern  PA.
I'd been before for the Hacienda reunion do, it's a wonderfully atmospheric old place and a  perfect size.

The usual 15 years out of date light show was amusing, the crowd were well up for it and even Dave Brock seemed happy. Well, as happy as you can be at   78 and still on tour.   :)
He has a couple of very nice Gibsons these days and if he's still using a JC120 and a Pod, who cares, it works!

Catch them if you get the chance, they won't  be here forever.

  • I'm going to the Royal Albert Hall (London) tonight.

Clapton guested last night at Guilford, wonder if he'll be there tonight? I've heard reports of Jah Wobble due to guest tonight.

    Enjoy it?

I'm already fretting at the prospect of never seeing them again.
