1929? Was that before the “modified low oval neck with the performance taper”?

How was it? If you won the lottery would you buy it?

  • I don’t even want to know how good that was.  My first girlfriend’s dad had a 40’s D18 and I still remember how it felt and sounded.

I’m going there tomorrow. Wondering if they’ll let me have a jam on it...

  • Always nice to see a piece of Martin history, but way overpriced and sad to see the mess created by the later affixed, then removed scratch plates. It would be a miracle if it hasn't had some work at that age, especially a neck reset. Still nice to get to play something of that age though My fave was a 1904 0 size with what became 28 appointments in Gruhns, Nashville. I used to go in quite a bit and one day the man himself came out with it for me to try, I kept going back in and playing it, eventually getting offered it for around 4K Dollars. I was so tempted but was about to come back to the uk, had enough gear to ship and tbh was frightened that something so old and fragile would not have made the trip intact.

Out of interest Timmy, did you look at the Davidson OM with the ash back? Very interested in that

No cracks, no reset, aligned like the day it left the factory. Pretty special

  • Is this the one in Bath? If so I have played it and it certainly sounds lovely. Much too expensive though.
