£999 for a set of Abby pickups...

What's Hot
Maybe I've been living in Yorkshire to long, but I feel that this is a wee bit steep.

Ridiculous. I think I read somewhere that she was retiring/retired, therefore somebody's trying it on. I'm a believer in hand-wound pickups as opposed to mass-produced, however there are plenty of winders out there who can do a stellar job for a reasonable price, including several on here. FWIW my favourite strat pups are Rocketfire Total 60's. Amazing.

  • I had a set a few years ago which I bought used on eBay . They just weren’t my sort of  thing, I much preferred my Custom Shop 57/62s. I sold them for around £120 making a small profit. I’d never pay more than £150 for a set of Stratocaster pickups.

There is a set of Abby's on my Fender Strat.  They are good sounding pickups.  The question is: why did the seller remove them from his guitar in the first place?

Not sure what anyone would really expect from these – Could be the most disappointing £1k you ever spend

  • You could buy a house in yorkshire for that ;-)

if Labour get in you could buy all of Yorkshire......

£1k for a set of new pups is strange. However, I'm considering buying a vintage P90 for my Martyn Booth. They are around £400....

I wish I got 999 quid every time someone posted a thread about this.

Then I'd have 1998 quid and be able to buy two sets of Abby pickups so I could have one for best and one for everyday.

Proof, it ever it were needed, that grossly over-priced items take an eternity to sell - if ever.

How much does an original set of pre-CBS Fender pickups go for?

If I'm spending that kind of money, I think I'd rather go that route.

I’ve had CS Relics with stock Abby hand-signed pickups, so they weren’t only available after-market. I also had one Strat with a mixture of hand-signed (wound by Abby) and hand-initialled (wound by a team supervised by Abby). I didn’t think any of those pickups were all that special tbh, compared with other CS pickups I’ve had.

Wasn't aware of that! Appreciate the correction there. I had a set of these as well, wasn't super impressed either.

Harsh!  The Abby pickups in my Strat are anything but harsh, in fact very much how I expect a Strat to sound.
