Another thing I’ve noticed recently, a half costs more than half the price of a pint, I’m sure it wasn’t always like that, is it a new thing?

Always been that way. We used to have a telling off for buying the pint in the bar & walking into the lounge to drink it, as it was a few pence more in there

I'd go out with £20, get absolutely smashed on cider and stop drinking by about 11pm as that's when it stopped being £1 a pint. Then I'd refuse to drink from 11pm til 3am because I was saving the money for a donner kebab pizza on my walk home.

I started my going out with a fiver that brought me 4 pints, a bag of chips & a taxi home. Now it’s £4.80 for a Guinness in town.
Manchester’s optimistic city centre bar pricing has spread to the suburbs - so now even the laziest drinker (me) can have the luxury of paying £6 for a pint in their neighbourhood boozers.  Add a g&t and you’re pushing £14.

I tell them this in my dad’s local up in the north-east and they genuinely think I’ve taken leave of my senses.
    Come to Stockport!

(Also gutted I missed Alabama 3 - how was it @jonnyburgo? Was the Reverend missed?)
It was a pretty wild gig @AntonHunter Nice tribute to the Rev as well. Mad mix of punters, from 60yo hawkwind fans to Football casuals, was ace.

  • A pint of Ruddles in Whetherspoons will set you back £1.80 or so. Too bad it tastes like dick.

... not my best joke, but certainly my truest.

I paid £19 for a Gin and Tonic at a Hilton in Vienna last year.

I think the most for a single drink is £40 for a Champagne cocktail in the Oxygen Bar at the Ritz Carlton in HK.  It was very extravagant in the every way possible.   This is how it is served.  You can eat the "stones" on the base, they are chocolate, apparently.  I only found out later on.

Weatherspoons is certainly the place of choice for those wanting a cheap night out!

Last week I swear it was £1.69 for a pint of some ale.

Thought I'd walked back to 1985.
