Listen to “Surrender To The Rhythm” by Brinsley Schwarz

and “Speak Like a Child” by The Style Council...

Also probably the most common one "10538 Overture" by ELO

and Weller's solo hit "The Changingman"

Trans global express is well documented. Source Wiki.

"Trans-Global Express" which was based on the Northern Soul funk hit "So Is The Sun" by World Column, lifting the chorus and rhythm line in their entirety from that song."

Just remember that when you edit a post with YouTube video links they break when you save after edit so you need to repost the links before saving an edited post

Love Weller/The Jam but he’s never been afraid to borrow other people’s ideas!

Here’s a couple that don’t always get talked about...

@Iamnobody ; what was the Weller track based on Uptown Top Ranking? It was in itself three steals away from the original:

@EricTheWeary I’m convinced he ‘borrowed’ the melodic idea from the first 15 seconds of Uptown Top Ranking for the guitar solo and last section of the song Mr Clean. I just played the intro to UTTR to my daughter and said what does this sound like and she said Mr Clean. She’s 8...

Okay, I’ll give that a listen. Ta.

Uptown Top Ranking started life as I’m Still in Love With You by Alton Ellis which was, I think, original mod era rocksteady so he may have known it from there,  although Uptown Top Ranking ( which is essentially the Ellis song with different lyrics) was 1977 and Mr Clean came out in 1978 so he could well have nicked it directly from them.

Just heard Strange Town for the first time in years and I'm sure it nearly bursts into My White Bicycle by Nazareth.
