What a fantastic album. Gong’s long player “You” is just as good, despite being a studio album. There are other live Gong albums worth checking out too. But note that this is Daevid Allen’s Gong (albeit with the Here & Now Band), and 1977 is bang slap in the middle of Pierre Moerlen’s Gong, which is far jazzier and much less of the synth blow out. I could go on, as i was very into Gong at one point....

The Here & Now band are also worth checking out in their own right. A better bit of punk infused psychedelic rock you will struggle to find.

Here & Now with Daevid and Gilli, wonderful! Discovered Here & Now the year after and followed them for ages. Gong from Camembert to You remain one of my all time faves. Not so keen on the Moerlen stuff, like some fusion (Weather Report, Return to Forever, Mahavushnu) but not that really
This is the truth from hillbilly guitars!

Massive Gong fan here! Just saw Steve Hillage with the current Gong lineup live in Amsterdam absolutely killing it! It's obviously not the same without Daevid Allen (but maybe that's alright in the big picture of things). Pierre Moerlen was one of the best drummers ever IMO, his snare work was absolutely fantastic.

Another huge fan of 70's Gong. When I saw him in 77ish, he had Clive Bunker playing drums. Fantastic show at a theatre in Victoria.

  • Love it.  :)

Saw H&N a couple of dozen times, Cheetham Hill library probably the best.

Keith is still my favourite bass player, and Steffy's back now, so we finally get to hear Telly Song again.....

    RIP Gav.

This pretty cool. Impromptu jamming at Kozfest. H&N were there too. You might want to 'settle' in for this one.

Good stuff @blobb . Loved the Ozrics since 'There is Nothing' in the 80's. Probably my fave band of the moment. Ed is clearly inspired.

Just in case...not quite Gong  - but this still sounds fresh and has some of that Planet Gong punky vibe.

Reminds me of The Beatles’ Day Tripper and of The Here & Now Band.
