    Hello!

Let's enjoy my first night locked down by introducing myself!

Born bread Parisian who moved to London almost 4 years ago already; speak Frencg and English but music is my first language! 27 yo and based in South. Have played guitar for 12 years and play my repertoire is mainly blues-rock and jazzy stuff. Lover of the good old 60s and 70s bands (Led Zeppelin, Queen, Fleetwood Mac), I tend to listen more and more Jazz, Soul and fusion stuff as I get older (signs of maturity??).

Q1: Where did you username come from? My first name.

Q2: Where in the world/country are you? South London.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition? Enjoy my guitar, compose melody and get better. Down for some Jam after the lock down?

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one? My Gibson Les Paul Traditional 2014.

Q5: Your #1 ever track - again, just the one? hmm... Miles Runs the Voodoo down!

Q1:  Where did you username come from?
No prizes for guessing... It stuck when I worked at a place with another James, and he'd been there longer, so I reverted to my weekend name.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?
    Lancashire

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?
Just to get better than I was yesterday. I record quite a bit with my hobby band so just to keep on getting better at that really.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?
A custom made 7 string from Croatia, that I managed to get from a guy who had comissioned the build but now needed the money. With hindsight it was a huge risk buying sight unseen from across the world, and with it being an unknown luthier, but that risk paid off.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?
Blinded by Fear by At The Gates

    Greetings Fretboard Community,

James here from Flagstaff Arizona USA.  Yes most of Arizona looks like a western out of a Clint Eastwood movie but Flagstaff is at 7000ft with real trees and ski resort 10 minutes out of town.  Work at the universtiy here and Ive been playing guitar for 3 decades but still consider myself a student, learning daily.  Being home bound for a few weeks gives me the opportunity to play more than usual.    As for my newbie questions -
Q1:  Where did you username come from?
simply my initial from the university,  drats I missed being number 1

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?
    Flagstaff Arizona USA

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?
To enjoy guitar playing and get somewhat decent at it.  Rock Star - nah

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?
    Gibson Flying V  1967 reissue - Black!

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?
Tough one since there are so many - Natural Science RUSH

This looks like a great community and look forward to the future.
    Peace James

1:  Where did your username come from?

In my other life I'm a software developer and that was the name of my short-lived company. I still feel like a World Wide Drew, which is why I'm sticking with it.

2:  Where in the world/country are you?

I'm originally from Newcastle, Australia, but I'm currently living in Berkhamsted, UK.

3:  What's your main musical ambition?

To write something I like. And hopefully someone else likes too.

4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

Probably my 100W Boss Katana head. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself on here in the correct fashion, it's Mikey Demus here of the band Skindred, and also Redbeard Effects.

Q1: Where did your username come from?

It's the name of my pedal company, which I started in 2019 with Adrian Thorpe of ThorpyFX (who requires no introduction). We make effects pedals with an alternative edge that are highly reactive, superbly engineered and handbuilt by rockstars right here in the UK.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    I'm based in Brighton, UK.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

I'm lucky that I've managed to make a living from playing music for almost 20 years with my band. My ambition is to keep that going, and release more gnarly, alternative effects pedals into the wild!

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

My Fender Ratocaster - a silver tele partscaster I made about 10 years ago with a Strat neck and Hot Rails pickups. Its battered to hell and I love it.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Today I'm gonna say If 6 Was 9 by Hendrix!

Thanks guys, glad to be on here!

Good evening... Just joined, so here's the 'essentials' asked for...

Q1: My User Name has been with me for many decades, and reflects the name I'm most often addressed with by family members (Dad...), followed by a country code (33=France...), then a 'County' code (53=Mayenne...).

Q2:  Answered above, really. I'm British (born Norfolk, but no-one is perfect, then Bedfont and Shepperton for many years...); I moved to France in '75, to play music (I'm a drummer...).

Q3:  Too late for any ambition at all; I've done (very modestly...) just about everything I thought myself capable of, and enjoyed it all. Retired, now (and old...). Main ambition is, every year, to see the year out, and then some...

Q4:  Best gear..? Without a doubt: my drums. A Camco set (they became DW in essence...) bought new in '73/4, which have served me well all this time. Paiste/Sabian cymbals for the most part, with an odd Meinl in there somewhere.

Q5:  No masterpieces, but I do contribute regularly to a Composition Challenge on another Forum, so have a fair number of pieces on Soundcloud, of very varied nature. Listen to them at your peril; you have been warned..!

No 1 Track: Angie by Bert Jansch; I never tire of listening to it.

  • Hello. I'm from Canada... addicted to gear and guitars, like everyone here probably. I work in the exercise and rehab industry, but my hobby is buying, selling and trading gear (need to sell some of it to get other stuff) and doing demos and reviews. I'm using my actual name. My best advice is, you likely will sound the same no matter the gear... sure, some differences, but it's amazing how much is in the hands and the style in which you play. Can't think of a single track I like the most, although I have an attachment to Beethoven's 6th symphony (first record I bought, at age 10).
