I find it amazing that the spelling “ough” has at least 9 different pronunciations - oo, ow, off, uh, up, or, ock, oh and uff.

I seem to be the only person left who pronounces ‘H’ as ‘aitch’.

It’s appalling how far standards have fallen....

I agree. It's even in the OED FFS, as plain as day - spelled just the way you have written it.

    "You should ask Haitch Arrr"
    "Who?"
    "You know, Haitch Arr"
    "Never heard of them"

My favourite one I've heard lately is N.Haitch.S.

It's amazing the effort some people will expend to get it wrong.

Given my surname isn’t exactly common, the number of times people spell it back to me: “Is that haitch, O, M, E, R?”

    No it f**king isn’t!

How the hell can you spend years in education and not know something as basic as this?

What's worse is that those prone to using "haitch" are more likely not to pronounce the very same letter when it appears in a word.

    Flay their hides, I say.

" can I refer back to yourself ?"
Says it all really , I can see where the misunderstanding of the word refer comes from but what's all this "yourself " instead of "you" thing so beloved of call-centre morons ?

My pet is "can I confirm your address?" - begging a yes or know answer in English, yet the twerps expect this to be answered as: "my adress is xxxx how kind of you to ask."

    Ignorance...

Not so much pronunciation as grammar but my biggest peeve is kids starting every other sentence with a completely unnecessary 'Wait...'

Inherited from garbage American kids' TV programmes.

    Awful.

Wis. Also “so” to start every sentence. Drives me nuts.

My wife pointed out that Kirsten, the ceramics lady in The Repair Shop, says “actually” all the time. It’s probably just a vocal tic, but once you notice it’s impossible to un-hear.
