It depends on how loud my amp is. At home levels I really like the King of Tone. At rehearsal or gig levels I like the Klon circuit.

I own 6 overdrives and rotate through loudness, boredom, guitars etc. They are all a substitute for using two amps, one clean and one not.

RevivalTrem. Plus you get a 'free' tremolo.

Another vote for the SD-1. Had various overdrives (some somewhat pricey or boutiquey) at different times before trying the humble SD-1 which cost less than 50 notes and is as good as any and IMHO better than most. At the moment my drive pedals are a BD-2 and an SD-1. Actually not that dissimilar except that the BD-2 lacks the mid hump of the SD-1. As already stated I’ve had a few more pricey ones which I’ve tried (because of what they cost) to convince myself that I liked more than I really did. For me (and I appreciate it won’t be the same for everybody) the Boss pedals just happened to work out better.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I own several. Been through even more. If I could only keep one, it'd be the Thorpy Warthog without a doubt. Fortunately, I don't have to restrict myself to just one. Whilst there's inevitably a bit of overlap (I have four on my board), each does something the others can't.

  • Mine changes weekly but my current favourite is the Effectrode Tube Drive and has been, surprisingly, for more than a week. Although, my Cornish G-2 is sounding good lately too.

  • The best overdrives are always found when you get to turn your amp up to its sweet spot. It beats any pedal any day.

Just bought a Mosky Horse for the equivalent of 14 quid delivered - only had 5 mins to have a quick play with it, but I'm very  impressed - got some great sounds with the gain on full and toggling the voice switch

  • I just got one that I think is awesome and a contender... the Honker Overdrive (picture of a goose on it, and made in Canada, in case you're wondering why it's call the Honker).  Fantastic sound and I love what it does for both clean and dirty amps.  If you check the FX Reviews on this site, I posted a demo of it. From a fine grain to a thick grain... from a boost to raunchy distortion overdrive.
