  • Hi

I'm Richard. Retired teacher. Hoping there are other inept guitar players on here enjoying the pain. First started learning guitar in the 70s, played bass badly for a bit then gave up for about 40 years. Eighteenth months ago bought a cheap strat copy and amp and became hooked once again.

Q1 Username means nothing just an instrument and a song.

    Q2: North Walsham Norfolk UK

Q3: Just to be able to strum a few chords, songs with friends.

Q4: Nothing much now, Epiphone SG is good. I wish I still had the Gibson SB bass I had in the 70s that was my fav.

Q5: Wishbone Ash The King Will Come. First  saw them in about 1973 last saw them about five years ago.

  • Hi Everyone, I'm James and just found my way to the forums here.

Q1:  My username came from Stephen King's novel "IT" and is one of the names used to refer to Pennywise. Been using the name for years now!

    Q2:  I'm in Falkirk, Scotland.

Q3:  Bit of an odd one this as I'm a cellist that would like to continue improving my skills, but I've always wanted to learn to play guitar too. Been skirting the guitar world for years but finally decided that I need to approach it with the same level of commitment that I do the cello. I'd really like to become comfortably proficient with the guitar. Right now, I know which way up to hold it ;)

Q4:  Currently have only the one guitar, (though another is on the way!): a 1994 Korean Epiphone Riviera with full size humbuckers, in cherry red, which I adore.

Q5:  Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones

  • Q1:  Where did you username come from?
Not that Imaginative, but I really liked SRV growing up so I like GRB and the rest of it is just the rest of my surname, haha.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?
I'm based In Reading currently, but prior to that I was in Donegal and then before that I was in London.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?
To get more fluent with my acoustic guitar playing, both fingerstyle and picking. In fact to become an incredible flat picker has always been my main goal but my technique is shocking. Carl Miner is an inspiration for that stuff. Incredible player.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?
Probably my Custom Avalon A8-325c with Alpine Spruce and Madagascar Rosewood. It may not be my most expensive Avalon now, but it was my first custom made one with the whole visit to the factory and selecting tonewoods experience. It's a little older than the rest and has matured a bit and sounds beautiful.

     Q5:  Your #1 ever track?
Tricky one, but I still love 'All Along The Watchtower' by Hendrix. Made me pick up the guitar in the first place, so that's good enough. There are so many though it's too hard to choose one.

Q1:  Where did your username come from?

Really stupid one this, but back in the early 80’s I needed a ‘handle’ and the only thing I could thing of was a new box of Rowntree chocolates called Kassalic. I dropped an ‘s’, can’t remember why.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Suffolk

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

To keep playing, and possibly get back into a band and do some gigs

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

In 1986 I purchased a Westone Spectrum DX from Mann’s Music in Colchester. Still have it and use it today.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd Last song of all our school disco’s, the knack was getting ‘friendly’ enough in the slow part to stay in hold once it sped up.

  • Mex-Brit guy, currently living in Mexico. Guitar builder and Berklee grad. I own a guitar boutique where we offer new and lightly used master luthier instruments at prices that are actually affordable to many players. I do believe everyone deserves a nice professional instrument regardless the amount each is able to put out. As a player, I Occasionally offer instruments of my own collection when I am not giving them enough time of use. I love classic Brit rock, blues and jazz, as well as most world music. Feel free to write for any reason you may want.

    Hi!

I'm very happy to have joined The Fretboard! I've been playing for many years, but haven't improved - is it Bill & Ted that finally realise that they ought to learn their instruments? That's me right now - back to basics, learning the fretboard etc. busy 45 year-old's life - so just five mins here and there, but finding 5 mins of effort is better than 1 hour of noodling about, for learning at least.

I played a lot of gigs in my teenage years, but not on the guitar - I (badly) played electric mandolin, but always really wanted to play guitar. I compensated for lack of skills and guitar by playing through various effects - mainly distortion, delay, phaser, chorus and a Peavey Bandit 112 amp.

Here are my answers to the 'big 5':

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

It's just an old nickname from when I was a young person

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    East Sussex, UK

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

My ambition is fairly low - I want to have some understanding of what I'm actually playing on the guitar instead of just rehashing the same old chords and playing by ear. I also would love to play with some other humans when the Panny-D is over.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

    My Fender Mexican Telecaster

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

A Forest - The Cure. I love dreamy hypnotic songs like this.
