I'd rather not have to wipe my own arse but, these days, you just can't get the staff.

Luckily the majority of toilet rolls are automatic so you don't have to wipe your own arse.

No wait, that's not true. But it is true that with most basses you don't have to take the lead out.

If bass players weren't so fickle  I would still be doing the rhythm parts in my band!

Actually, I have found I quite enjoy doing the bass parts and may well stick to it.

I have joined the dark side....

When I've browsed out of curiosity I'm always surprised how few choices there are for fretless.

I guess it depends where you look.
Theres quite a few now that have fret markings but are fretless.
Im not a fan of those, I like fretless to be fretless.
I find myself being more creative and having more fun when not looking for markers on a neck.
I would love a double bass but don’t have the room and can’t play standing up.

I don't think its that surprising - for starters, fretless is very much a 'niche' and secondly, not very many people pick up a fretless electric bass as their first bass, so the market for beginner/budget fretless instruments is almost non-existent.

This was my first Fretless bass guitar.

    https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass_fl_vs_vintage_series.htm

I bought it last year before the Brexit shit.

I absolutely love it to bits.

It’s my go to but a pain to play sitting down because it digs in under my ribs

I'm waiting until you complete the transition by graduating to upright contrabass.

    Sheila, take a bow. ;)

Used you may be able to get a scruffy Fender in-budget; the last two I've bought have been under your budget. (That's Fender, not Squier "as good as" ones.)

I had a SUB (by Music Man) bass which was probably the most solid instrument I've ever owned - I bought and sold it in-budget.

Some decent Yamahas can be had cheaply; it's not a brand which particularly does it for me, though.

It may be possible to build a decent one from parts, but beware, though, as I have seen some Squier parts being offered for more than a full instrument is worth.

I think it's fair to say there is absolutely no way you're getting a proper Fender for £250 anymore. Squier Vintage Modifieds are that kind of money.

I’ve noticed that Squier prices have got silly lately.
