I have a Maudio midi controller that has some pads on it... works to get the basic rhythm down... then draw it in...

although if you’re on Mac and have logic or garage band you can always use “musical typing” to input the notes... or just use apple drummer :)

I can recommend the Atom.  With Studio One it integrates really well with Impact, and it's much more than just a drum controller.  It has transport controls, can control DAW zoom and, perhaps my favourite simple feature, you can tap tempo using it.

There is a deal on w/Atom and Atom SQ where you get 10% rebate. Both products include Studio 1 Artist. I've just bought a Atom SQ, and although I've not had chance to connect it up, it feels really nicely made.
