Could be worse, you could like the Terminator franchise...
Romulus is the homeworld of the Romulan Empire, destroyed by a supernova, rather unluckily, precipitating the events of both the 2009 "kelvin universe" film, and Picard Season 1.
Unlike a lot of sci-fi movies, 40+ years on, I don't notice how dated the tech is ... it doesn't actually matter to the plot. It's so well put together ... the concept of the alien, the facets of human nature, the backdrop and mood ... but the ultimate contribution to its success IMHO is Hans Giger's design/creation.
I remember reading a film review after Alien's release, commenting on how some of the cast/crew were permanently crapping themselves on set because of the presence of the alien ... some of them were having nightmares!
I can't think of a more powerful, scary alien in any sci-fi movie ... it scared the crap out of me in 1979 and to some extent it still does now.
Alien 2 got pasted by critics when it was first released ... it appears that time and popular culture have turned into a massive favourite these days. Personally, I think every sequel has failed to match the original ... it's only a matter of by how much.
I'll deffo watch the new one but it'll be more in hope than expectation. If it's utter tosh then I'll just watch Alien again to eradicate any annoyance and restore some normality.
Alien is a top 10 movie of all time, across any genre ... and IMHO best sci-fi movie.
Just a little bit of history repeating itself...
1) Alien
2) Alien 3 - Fincher Cut
3) Aliens
4) Alien Covenant
5) Promethius
6) Alien 4
The first 18 certificate film I saw was 'Magnolia'.
