LP Neck Refin - Sheffield, Doncaster, Notts

My LP Custom has never been quite right, but I knew that when I bought it. It suffered a headstock break on route to Andertons from Gibson and was repaired at Andertons before they sold it as B-stock. The repair and subsequent finish work are good, but over time the original and the repair have started to age quite differently.

This never really bothered me but now the clear coat has started to go brittle and is literally flaking off as I touch it. There was no ding to set this off, it's just delaminating. As such I'm now thinking about getting the whole neck refinished to sort the clear and sort the discolouration. I know I'm risking the neck aging a different colour to the body but again, I can deal with that. As it's a Custom the serial number is printed rather than stamped so I'd like to be able to keep that if possible, I've already lost the Custom decal from the bottom of the headstock

Any recommendations North Mids-ish - I'm 30mins from Sheffield, Doncaster, Notts, Lincoln etc. I've found Tietzsch Guitars in Sheffield who look good but if any one knows any better let me know.

If you go for a neck only finish are you happy that the body and neck may end up at different shades.     Even with good colour matching you will still have the issue of the finishes potentially aging differently

I'm aware, but at least it's two distinct parts of the guitar that will also wear at different rates over time anyway so could look different in any case.

If you can do the extra few miles to Wakefield (Horbury Bridge) then I’d recommend Shane Haigh (The String Surgeon) who does excellent work. He reshaped and refinished the neck on my PRS SC250 and it’s a superb job.

Stuart is incredible but be prepared for a long wait (unless things have changed) he had my SG for 3 months to do a set up a few years ago. He was very difficult to communicate with.

He's a lovely guy and extremely good but a result of that is that he gets incredibly busy.

+1 Tom did the best set up on my PRS that I've ever had on a guitar - can't comment on refin skills but if it's anything like his general work then it will be great.
