i've just used standard mp3 recorders and it's way too distorted. Can't hear anything. I think it's the bass guitar that blows the sound levels. We aren't that loud but I suspect my simple mp3 player recorder was never designed for this!
I've used a H1 straight in front of a 20W valve amp speaker and it coped just fine (auto gain off, and input level dialled down).
They do have a low frequency roll-off filter which IIRC is switched on by default (so you may want to switch it off).
FWIW, I think the audio quality is excellent, but it feels a bit cheap & 'plasticy'.
I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks again.
Don't know about the H1, but the H2 is great, that's what we use. Picks up the bottom end fine. Just gotta be careful of the positioning vs the drummer and how hard he hits the crash, but other than that I was blown away by the sound quality. Has revolutionised band practice too.
Be warned though, when you're the dude that has to listen back to, chop up, convert, and send out every week, it gets old fast!
I was wondering how to do this without investing in some sw but I can use the mac so all good!

Just to say the Zoom H1 is working out great.
First week I tried it with auto input volume settings. Only issue was it kept correcting itself when we played loud. So for example, the intro with one guitar sounded loud and then when we all kicked in the volume dropped.
So last week I tried setting to a fixed min input volume. It worked a treat!
Nice bit of kit. Highly recommended.
Cheers
