What's Hot

Well, here we are. The first Test of the "summer" is about to start, always a great moment.

However, I think there's s very real possibilty that we won't win a test in the next four series. NZ are no mugs, The Aussies will be looking to roll us over, Pakisatna in UAE will be hoping we are as ineffective against spin as we were last time and then we travel to South Africa for a fiar old challenge.

It'll be interesting to see how things go.

And if i was Jason Gillespie I'd run a mile from the coaching role. Maybe next year, after the dust has settled, but the coaching job for the next 12 months isn't one you'd think would be lining you up for glory.

But it's cricket. Strange things happen.

Play.

    Great start :-|

I'm sure this wouldn't have happened if they'd picked KP ;)

He's injured anyway so it's irrelevant. What we have seen thus far is no surprise. It's a decent seam attack against a wobbly batting line up on a green wicket that's warm enough to allow some swing. Plenty of teams have folded in the County Championship over the last few days in similar conditions (wasn't expecting Somerset to rally against Notts the other day).

@scrumhalf We really have got a fucking arduous schedule.

Nice to see Stokes batting ahead of Moeen.  Personally I'd bump Buttler up a spot as well and have Moeen at 8.

Apparently Moeen was in the nets and couldn't get out there in time.

It wasn't planned. By all accounts Moeen was in the nets and simply couldn't get back in time to take the number 6 slot.

It's a great wicket for NZ to play on. It's very much like home.

Yep, I can't wait for all my smug australian mates to up their banter.

We were in Australia for our honeymoon during the last Ashes in Nov 2013...That was loads of fun...SAID NO ONE EVER.

Aussie cricket fan after a 5-0 Ashes win: Hey, you Poms fucking suck at cricket.

England fan: We know. Why do you think the Barmy Army is so named? We know we're fucking idiots for supporting a team with a long history of failure punctuated by crystalline moments of brilliance like 1981 and 2005.

    We know we're shit :)

Odd fact though: England have won more Ashes Tests in Australia than in England. The 1990's really did a lot to swing the stats Australia-wards.

Excellent day of cricket so far. A bit for the seamers, definite turn and bounce for the spinners (shame we haven't got any really decent ones on display this series), runs to be scored if you get in... can't go wrong.

It really was a great day of cricket. Felt it for Root & Stokes, both deserved centuries. Poor old Stokes must be furious with himself.

Great middle order batting, but you can't hide the fact that the top 4 were total pants. This is not good enough, we always have these pathetic collapses. Glad we salvaged the day, but are the individuals ever going to grow a pair and man up to the task, or keep wilting when someone else gets out.
