So he can move his fingers really quickly.

Too many notes. Just too many notes.

As musical as someone resting their finger on a keyboard with an 'auto-arpeggio' patch enabled.

    Meh.

He just needs a sock/hanky on the headstock to catch it...

Following on from a discussion about John Mayer's rig in which I questioned why people felt the need to bash players whose material they don't like, rather than appreciate them for their talents and accept that they just don't like their music...

This is a great example of a style I don't personally like, but can appreciate the player. This guy clearly has fantastic technique and he has great hand speed. But the music leaves me totally cold. He just seems to be "widdling" over a drum machine and some sort of harmonic content that is barely audible. I can't bloody stand it :)

To be fair, it's a "show off" clip - he's playing very fast, and is very loud compared to the backing. I'm sure it would sound totally different in a proper mix.

    R.

What's required here to counter this unnecessarily fast playing is a tasteful version of Red House:

Ha gross! Tell you what though, Yngwie oozes effortlessness. He's a joy to watch.

I really like Malmsteen from a wow point of view, it's just so clean .- I can appreciate that technically he is right at the top of the tree. Of the two, I'd much rather listen to the Malmsteen clip than the op's clip, it just has more feel and variety in it. Generally not my cup of tea any more though.

I'd rather listen to early Malmsteen than Vai/Satch etc.

I got no problem with the speed but it's the gain and the tone, too much gain.

For the wow factor in technique I prefer country shred these days, very fast playing but cleaner tone and more thought about the notes

I actually don't mind some nice shred, but I don't think that clip had sufficient melody to be all that nice. That's where a player like Yngwie usually wins (I've avoided that clip above though!).

I don't like to be that critical of others though. There's probably a guitar forum somewhere in the world where they are all having a laff about my newest video.

I actually really like Yngwie's strat tone.  He's an insane player but I don't really listen to his stuff.

If you want to hear a super fast modern shredder check this guy out... he plays it slow first then plays it faster and cleaner than most mortals could manage.

2 minutes 50 seconds in to the Gary Moore clip - that's when the chills down my spine started.  His control of a fully cranked amp is just amazing.

Honestly say I prefered the Malmsteen version of Red House of the two clips on offer.

Try this for an awesome-ly powerful rock version of Red House, played fast on a strat. Five choruses of masterful soloing blossoming into a climactic held high note at the start of the fifth chorus. Walter Trout can really sing, too!
