Lots of stuff but the below is limited to what I think are genuinely brilliant albums end to end and still get a lot of repeat listens, in no order:

    MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
    Everything Everything - Arc
Chvches - The Bones of What you Believe
Ben Howard - I Forget Where We Were
John Mayer - Born and Raised
Wolf Alice - My Love is Cool
    Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Hard to pick a favourite, but at a wild stab… Marianne Faithfull, Give My Love To London.
    There y'go; favourite picked!
(I've got the live album of the gig they did at Wembley - you ordered it before going in and picked it up on exit.)

Thanks to MusicBee I can easily sort stuff into years. These are some of my favourite albums since 2007.  I've tried to keep it down to one album per band - but in most cases if I've mentioned a band I've enjoyed all their output over the last ten years.

    Not Heavy:
    Delain -  The Human Contradiction
Riverside - Love, Fear & The Time Machine
Bruce Soord with Jonas Renkse - Wisdom of Crowds
    The Gathering - Disclosure
The Gathering - A Noise Severe
    Anneke Van Giersbergen - Drive
Steve Rothery - The Ghosts of Pripyat
    Anathema - Weather Systems

    Heavier:
Paradise Lost - The Plague Within
Amorphis - Under the Red Cloud
    Insomnium - Winter's Gate
    Witherscape - The Inheritance
    Carcass - Surgical Steel
    Sabaton - Carolus Rex
Omnium Gatherum - New World Shadows
Moonsorrow - Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa
Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
    Megadeth - Endgame
Heaven & Hell (Dio Black Sabbath) - The Devil You Know
    Immortal - All Shall Fall
    Opeth - Watershed
    Nightwish - Dark Passion Play
Katatonia - Night Is the new Day
    Be'Lakor - Vessels
In Mourning - The Weight of Oceans
    Epica - The Quantum Enigma
    Xandria - Sacrificium
    Nightwish - Dark Passion Play
I got to see Heaven & Hell at Wembley; Geezer's bass sound was fantastic.

(Nightwish - the album is so good it made it onto the list twice!)

My favourite is Clockwork Angels - Rush's best since Moving Pictures.

(I saw them on both of those tours!)

Cheers all! Some I know I don't like in there, plenty I know I like and plenty I don't know so should keep me going for a while :)

As for my own list, the following stick out off the top of my head:

Gaslight Anthem - all albums but particularly American Slang and Handwritten
The Hold Steady - Boys & Girls in America
    Springsteen - Wrecking Ball
The Tragically Hip - Man Machine Poem
Bon Iver - 22, A Million (and the live NPR gig)
    Noel Gallagher - Chasing Yesterday
    St Vincent - St Vincent
    Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams
Beck - Morning Phase (great call from @mudslide73 )
    Sigur Ros - Kveikur
    QOTSA - Like Clockwork
    REM - Collapse Into Now
The Assumptions - UAE party band for all your rock & soul desires

I quite enjoyed "Now That's What I Call Music! 79".  A significant improvement over 78.
I gather that, like most bands, NTWICM are struggling with that difficult 97th album.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

That was a close contender too. Can't believe I forgot to mention the Finn Brothers 'Everyone Is Here' - that would also be on the shortlist, I think I might marginally prefer it to the Crowded House ones… but anything with Neil Finn in it is good.

  • Gallows- Grey Britain.
    Without shadow of a doubt.
It's a scathing and vitriolic attack on the state of the UK.
It sounds like the Sex Pistols playing Black Sabbath.
Sadly (or impressively) it's still completely relevant today, some 8 years later.

    Honourable mentions:
    Gaslight Anthem: 59 Sound
    Hot Water Music: Exister
    Mastodon: Crack the Skye

Guess my tastes are stuck in the past
