I like Malmsteen – his technique is of the charts. His playing might be boring and meaningless to some, which I can understand; but if we’re comparing the videos in this thread then his playing is far better than anything Kirk Hammett did. I mean it was utterly woeful.

It's far worse than Elvis in the 70's. In 1977 Elvis' health was clearly going off a cliff and god knows what painkillers he was taking, but musically he was still absolutely on it right through his last tour. Theres no way he'd have gone out and performance like those Metallica videos, or done an hour and a half of mindless gurn-twiddling like Yngwie.
