I find it pointless listening to him because he just bigs up everything and kisses ass to everyone. Last night he played a song with "baking soda" in the lyrics, repeatedly. Then he banned on about amazing it was.

Because those of us who don't listen to Radio One don't normally have to encounter him. If he's doing stuff for Apple he's likely to be stuffed down our throats like a gastroscopy

Well, hardly. How often is Tim Cook on TV, or on the radio, or in the news? If Lowe is doing anything like a streaming radio show at Apple you won't have to listen, surely? And otherwise, he'll be in an advisory role, in which case he'll pop up in their keynotes and product launches and very little else.

FWIW I like him. I don't like all his music choices, but at least he knows what he's talking about and will play stuff if he likes it. 

I also supported his old band once. Nice chaps

I never listen to Zane Lowe or Radio 1 (by choice but have been forced to on occasion) as I find them both really irritating.

He seems to be someone who likes every piece of garbage music that's put in front of him-never heard him say he didn't like anything, ever...Which to me is pretty false, and not really a good promoter/plugger of new music if you can't balance the good and the bad, he was more like marketing/advertisment for music, which if I remember was kind of his role?

Not to highjack the OP's thread, but 6Music is the best compromise for me now........can't abide Radio 1 and Radio 2 can be a bit beige at times.

6Music for me thanks. Miss it when I don't have a DAB equipped car though.

He's enthusiastic about all the music he plays because he plays music he's enthusiastic about, I guess...

I don't mind him, bit over the top sometimes but he often plays good rock and alternative bands you'd never normally hear on R1 peak hours...not to mention good pop music too.

He's done well for himself through his own efforts and talent, as far as I can see, so good on him for taking the next step up the ladder.

Yeah but I thought he was Radio 1's critic/champion of new music so a bit of balance is always good. Also I don't think he's be allowed total free reign over the music he played, so it always come across as a bit false. Massive sycophant towards guests too...

I'll leave it there...TBH I don't listen to radio if I can help it, probably because every DJ does my head in!!!

Radio 1 DJs post 7pm are considered specialists and get to choose their own playlist. Earlier shows are largely determined by playlisting software.
