  • Nice to see a good few entries this month - and some good stuff in there, too. I'm going to need a couple more listens to pick my top three.

  • A really varied selection here. Congratulations to all who took part.

5 Points @steamabacus - Great tone captured there and equally great riff.

    3 Points @Markv

    1 Point @Hobbio

  • Cheers @ElectroDan. It was all recorded direct (onto minidisc!) with the loop assembled on my JamMan looper pedal. No computer involved until I uploaded it.

  • Sounds great to me! What did you have the guitar going through?

  • I have a 'preamp board' of compressor, phaser and various gainy pedals that goes into the front of a Blackstar HT5. The fx send from that goes into my 'delay board' and the JamMan looper in stereo. From the looper it goes in stereo to two Award-Session preamps (with speaker emulation) and a Drawmer stereo rack compressor which is plumbed into two channels on my mixing desk (old Behringer). A bit of reverb (Lexicon rack unit) on the desk aux send and then out to the minidisc recorder.

It's a setup that has slowly 'evolved' over the years - I'm very familiar with the componenets and I have it set up so I can switch it all on and be recording in seconds with the throw of a couple of power switches.

    Thanks for the point @Electrodan.

For anyone that's interested, I went through my pedal board into a Blackstar HT-5, then used the 4x12 emulated out into a Focusrite iTrack Solo and then into GarageBand on my iPad. It's easy and versatile, but I find mixing in GarageBand to be a pain which is why mine is soooo badly done. It really changes between the iPad and Soundcloud, the bass disappears and the rest of the levels seem to jump around a lot.

  • No problem @hobbio. I liked the riff. It has a good energy to it and reminds me of Life in the Fast Lane.

There seems to be some love for the HT5 here.

Some seriously classy bits of music here and it seems unfair to only reward three. But after much enjoyable listening, I will go with:

5 points @mellowsun - lovely and clean, very 80s and really catchy, I had it going round in my head for ages!
    3 points @kin - intriguing and different
    1 point @Antique_Guitars - good singing too

Thanks for the points so far, I was pleased with how this turned out. It's the second "full" track I've recorded (i.e. all the sounds), rather than recording over a backing track. The first was last month's RotM ...

A slight variation on my usual voting criteria this month ...

5pts @mellowsun - wow, the quality of the playing, recording, mixing - stunning Phil.  Love it.
3pts @markv - a pretty close second, based on the above criteria.
    1pt @kin - impressive timing

Normally, I'd vote based on the toe-tapping, memorable, "riff" content.  Could I hum it after a couple of listens?

This month those criteria have been pushed out of the window by some great quality, inventive playing, and tracks that I just want to hear more of.  So - where's the rest of the tracks guys??
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Well, mine was cut from the first few bars of this widdle-fest.   :D

I agree, it's great to see a decent number of consistently inventive and varied 'riffs'. I hope this level of interest and quality continues in the coming months.

I don't have a full track for mine, just that snippet and an aspiration! I meant that it's only the second time I have recorded a piece of music where I have done all the instruments/sounds. And it's only 50 seconds ... some way to go for me I think!
