Your homemade amps?

I've seen bits and pieces on here of people's home made amps, especially memorable a very small one with exposed valves (if I recall correctly). Is there a thread covering them?

If not, care to share? And, if you do, do you have schematics available or do you sell them?

I don't have the ability or time to do it myself, just wondered.

I made myself a Class T amp from a 41Hz kit. Wound the inductors myself.

    http://www.monkeyfx.co.uk/pictures/amp/ampback.jpg

And I made this glorious 25x1 speaker array. It sounds awful like anything you play into it is a resonator.

    http://www.monkeyfx.co.uk/pictures/amp/array.jpg

Also this cab which was much more successful, but now just takes up floor space so will be smashed up and scrapped in the next couple of weeks.

I made a couple of kits last year:

    Amp maker - champ kit:

    Amp:

    In the cab:

Amp maker - 18 Watt Marshall kit

    Amp in the head:

I've got a Triode 2204 which I'm planning to get to this year and an Egnater 50 watt kit on the way soon too - now to find the time to do them!!!

@imalrightjack Bruce Egnater does sessions in the states where he teaches amp building and the amp that they make in the session is a 50 watt souped Marshall type thing. He's now making the kits plus training materials available to buy mail order so I'm in for one of those!

If that sounds of interest you can email Bruce and see if he's taking orders for the second run, his email address is in this thread on the MTS forum:

    http://mtsforum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?t=21271

This is one of the actual amps for sale in another thread on rig talk:

    http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=168898

Also the amp maker kits are a great sarting point - there very easy to follow and if you get stuck his support is great!

Most of mine have had exposure in other threads. I am not able to design circuits, but can follow a schematic and can solder.
I've built 20 or 30 different effects pedals as well, prior to trying the amp builds. All my builds have been for me to use, though I am likely to off-load some in the coming months in order to create some space in my spare room!

    So, here goes:

Ampmaker WF-55 combo - which is a 5F1 Champ "clone" with diode rectification.

5E3 Clone combo - from a Weber VST kit. Now with a TAD output transformer, Jensen P12Q speaker and Variable Voltage Regulation (VVR), which allows the amp to be played at bedroom volumes.

18 watt TMB combo - based on the Ceriatone schematic, but with Ampmaker transformers, valve rectification and fitted with VVR

And finally, an Ampmaker P1800 - 18 watt head marshall type, from the ampmaker kit, and which has VVR as standard.

Superb work @mtb .....that 5E3 clone looks especially tasty! I wish I had some vague skills to be even able to contemplate doing one!

Thanks, I am just assembling them and making the odd minor modification (eg. to reduce the bottom end flubbyness of the 5e3). I have much respect for those that have the knowledge for circuit / amp design.

I have a Vyse Royale that I built on a course with Barry Vyse. Sold a guitar this morning and the buyer complimented the full, clear sound of this Blackface style amp. Also got a Madamp A15 head - google it - superb 2 channel amp kit from Germany.

Mbt - if you ever move that 5e3 on, please give me a shout. Bloody nice that with the vintage lacquer.

@Sporky you're not really going to smash up the blue cab, are you? It looks grand!

I've tried selling it for less than the bits cost; I even tried giving it away and all I got was some joker wanting me to post it to him at my expense. No-one wants it; it's taking up space. It's a perfectly decent cab, mind, made to the Award Session dimensions for an oversized 1x12 or 2x10.

That cab looks fab! I'd have it, if I had the room. I'm actually downsizing a touch at the moment and the girlfriend is getting the bandit as a bass amp... I think she'd be miffed if I hooked myself up to a 2x10...

Lovely work though. Seems criminal to smash it up :(

^what tpd said - such a shame that's what you're having to contemplate :(  I'm not sure I have the space for blue sparkly, but if you were thinking of shipping rather than smashing, please do let me know what it would be and I'll have a ponder :)

Some properly impressive efforts in this thread @MtB that is some very tidy wiring sir, impressive indeed!

@hywelg did you do those kits your self - that OTS one look like it was a serious amount of work?

Yes. OTS is a little complicated but it is straightforward.

Still got the amp, though now it has a new PT as the Ceriatone failed.

I've had this for a few years now: http://stompage.juansolo.co.uk/ampage.html Please excuse me @Juansolo for pinching your thread/photos but they really do it justice whereas I can't. It stays clean right the way around the dial & is the perfect pedal platform :)
