Anything by Jon Ronson is good for a flight.  Factual but mostly short pieces and usually humorous. That's if you haven't heard them on R4. Sort of Louis Theroux on the radio.

Alternatively, "A Confederacy of Dunces" might keep you entertained if by some chance you have missed it already.

Also agree on the Roddy Doyle (make sure it is one of those three though) an I enjoyed the Marr but I am a fan.

I’d agree on the Jon Ronsons - intelligent but not heavy going. The Psycopath Test in particular.

I've just finished reading Set The Boy Free which is the Johnny Marr autobiography. Very interesting and very readable. I can't say I'm particularly a Marr fan, but I really enjoyed his book.
I was too lazy to read that so I paid for the audiobook and let JM read it out loud.

Bits of the Eddie Izzard autobiography are good. (Possibly, too many footnotes.)

the acid house by irvine welsh, who is scottish. do the math(s).
weird, funny, sexy and sad. his classic (transpotting) writing-in-accent can be a surprise if you haven't read welsh before, but if you are stuck in spain with only one english language book you will have more reason to stick it out. also made into a film which is worth catching.
    who you been seeing, bob?

I've seen Acid House a few times (my mate Kevin plays Johnny) but to be honest I'm not in to reading books if I've already seen the film adaptation.

    "Jamrach's menagerie"

I would re-read it, if I hadn't been so impressed I lent it to someone and never got it back
Seriously thinking about buying it a second time

"The sisters Brothers" is also very good

    also

    "Snowdrops"

'The Rum Diary' might be alright, I've not read any Hunter S Thompson but I'm taking a tee shirt with me with a quote of his on the back.
Aereogramme? If so i've got that t-shirt too
    Nope, it's a Brewdog shirt

  • check out Mike Turvil on amazon. You could probably read The Shed in the time it takes to do (or even wait for) your flight.

Fido's Tale and A Twist in the Tale are both a good read and depending on how much lounging around you're going to do you might get through both on a long enough holiday

For factual I'd recommend the best titled book I've ever come across. The Bad-ass Librarians of Timbuktu by Joshua Hammer. It's mainly about a guy trying to preserve manuscripts from when that area was a great centre of learning but it's a great bit of history of the Sahara region in general.

Couldn't find some of the others in town, then @HAL9000 's suggestion caught me with the title. It should hopefully keep me entertained for the journey.
    Thanks everyone.
