Thanks all! This is the hardest part - waiting for it to harden enough to buff it up!

Having looked carefully at your thread I'm thinking of scoring a cheap tele and modifying it: I've come to the conclusion that it's the absence of custom cuts that is my main gripe with the things, as everyone else in the Known World seems to thing they're the best guitars ever.

May I ask how you did the cuts?  Can't have been just sanding, can it?

That burst looks outstanding! How did you do it? Is it all woodstain?

    Thanks guys.
The cut outs were roughed out with a sanding disc on a small angle grinder, then refined with coarse files before machine sanding then hand sanding.
I had a strat and loved the cut outs and the single coils but it didn't sound right, I don't use a trem and I love the look of a tele.

The burst is all wood stain, vintage amber and tobacco brown I did something similar to this using water for dilution -

It needs a fair bit more work, I haven't wired up the switch properly, the finish is not perfect, it needs a set up and fret dress (there is not neck relief at all yet!) but it was love at first strum.

It's only supposed to be a test fit to make sure everything is roughly right before I go any further but all I want to do now is play the $*%^ out of it.

That really is very nice, there is something quite special about an instrument you've built yourself, that first strum after tuning it up and plugging it in......priceless!

    Its addictive too!
