Perhaps @MattFGBI could check it out for you if you have numbers or further details about it.

  • Gadgie - I am in Glasgow....would love to see this in person if you are anywhere close by...might help to see it in the wood given the concerns over the neck.

Whereabouts are you in god's country?

    My guitars:

Electrics - 1964 Burns Bison, 1967 Burns Jazz Bass, 1979 Sunburst Strat, 1975 Tele Custom, 1982 Les Paul Firebrand, 1990 Optek Fretlight FG200 (plus various USA and Jap Strats, Epiphone Casino x2, and others - some in bits).

Acoustics - Gibson SJ-200, Lowden O-23, Moon OOO, Fylde (unknown model), Avalon A-200ce, 1969 Yamaha FG-180, Faith Saturn (plus others like Fender Dobro, Aria 1970's 12 string, Takamine - now retired)

    Others - 1968 Baldwin 712T & Peerless New York.

To me the signature is too much in line with the Fender logo. It should be more in line with the neck.

That is not a Fender neck.

You should probably remove the decals.

  • Cool. Thanks. Do you know what it is then?
    Cheers
    Brian
PS. Should maybe move this to the other section (not the classified section)

There would never be a blank truss rod hole on one, it'd either have a rosewood/walnut plug or at the very least a liner.

  • @MattFGBI - out of curiosity, what is it about the neck which makes you say it's not genuine? Is it the figuring on the maple?

  • Ah ok. I see what you mean about the truss rod hole.
It's a cracking neck though. Pity I can't place what it is.

With the amount of Strats (Squier and Fender) sold over years and the amount of third party necks available it could be anything.

edit. Sorry, just seen matts reply that it's NOT a Fender.

Ok, if you look at it in terms of what it's saying it's supposed to be then firstly the neck is the wrong colour. Clapton necks are all very pale.  The string trees are wrong, the nut is wrong and as mentioned above the truss rod adjustment is not only in the wrong place but it should also have a walnut plug. And the headstock just looks like the wrong shape.

I looks like a pretty cheap neck to me.

@Gadgie - although it may be disheartening, it may be worth taking a photo of the routs on the Strat body to see if it's what your mate sold it to you as.  You don't want any come back if the body isn't what he said it was either.  :(

I looks in good condition for a 70's body.  Is it an original or a reissue? Either way, how many neck bolts are there?

And if you intend to sell the guitar I would ask you to please remove the decals.

@MattFGBI - I think he said the previous owner had it refinished - so it's certainly worth him double checking it's an original.  I hope his friend didn't sell it to him for a lot of cash...

  • @mattFGBI I'm trying to get a meet sorted to see the beast. It will be for a body for a gilmore black strat and only if it's 100%. Ifi do get it then the neck will be cleared and put with an old body and likely given away as a starter guitar.

    My guitars:

Electrics - 1964 Burns Bison, 1967 Burns Jazz Bass, 1979 Sunburst Strat, 1975 Tele Custom, 1982 Les Paul Firebrand, 1990 Optek Fretlight FG200 (plus various USA and Jap Strats, Epiphone Casino x2, and others - some in bits).

  • @cobwebscavern / @Gadgie - If you do end up splitting it, I'd be keen to try and get the neck from you for a project Tele Deluxe if you haven't earmarked it for something else yourself of course! :)
Sarcasm is often hard to detect in writing. If in doubt - yes, I was taking the piss.

  • As I said, might be worth moving this out of 'classifieds'. I only followed up on it today because I had nothing to do. I was not saying this guitar was up for sale again, although there is interest for bits as mentioned about.
If this is a cheap neck, then I'll be buying squires in the future. Honestly this neck is a peach to play.

If you edit your first post (cog top right) the choose the desired board to move it too.

Re the body. The problem now is that we know that the neck is not a Fender, I suspect there is a high chance the body isn't a US either, possibly just a selection of 3rd party strat parts bolted together.

Since you said this isn't a for sale thread anymore, how much did you pay your friend for it?
