Meat Pie?

My recent conversation with a cafe owner in a northern town of Stoke On Trent that has on its menu 'vegetable pie and chips' , 'meat pie and chips'..

Meat.
What sort of meat?
Cooked meat.
No, I mean what type of meat?
What do you mean?
You know, is it chicken or beef or pork?
I dunno.
What do you mean you don't know?
I dunno, depends on who took it out of the freezer.
Well surely you would know cos it would be on the packet?
Oh.. I'll just check..  I think it's steak and kidney.
Oh, have you got any chicken pies?
I'll have to check...
Don't people ever ask you what's in the pie?
Well you have.
Yeah, I know that, l mean other customers?
No not usually.

I love a Wright's Pie, me. You should really be eating oatcakes up there anyway matey - the cheese/bacon/brown sauce combo is a delicacy imo.

Stoke On Trent is my home town and I'm still a big fan of oatcakes. These days I order them online from Staffordshire Oatcakes. Highly recommended.

They are!  And too big for most people in one sitting.   As a challenge I stuffed the whole thing once, and regretted it.  Could not move in the office for the rest of the afternoon and didn't eat again for almost 48 hours.  One will easily feed four people and leave them comfortably full.
