The spalted one? Looks to be an ASAT Classic Alnico (since those aren't MFD pickups).

G&L operate basically as a custom shop with each instrument is made to order. Dealers seem to request fairly "vanilla" ones for the most part, but customers can order too, so I suspect the fun ones are customer orders.

There's a page on their website that shows all the available options and colour/finish choices for each model, although the only place I can find any mention of spalted maple as a body wood is as limited edition runs.

G&L have always done some great basses - I've had my eye on an old L2000 for a while. I have to say though, that bound P does look really good. 

Depends on price I guess - I've not been keen on fenders USA stuff for a while, and the G&L stuff really seems to be going in the right direction

Yeah - real heft. Unique sound and so stable as well - if your shoulder can hack it then it's probably an ideal road warrior gigging bass - the sort of thing the cockroaches will be playing!
