    I was lucky to play Johnny's 'Burst too Rob ( # 9 1970 )  - beautiful top, and a fantastic sounding guitar....

I was two numbers out, not bad from memory, but still wrong!

Joe B's Snakebite is 9 1948, 22 numbers away. The tops are very similar, as is the colour, the neck profile and the tone.

Here's Mike Hickey weighing up the two.

    and Rich and Joe

@guitartango They are vintage Fender tweeds. Joe had a couple of Lazy J80's but blew them up so he ditched them and returned to the vintage Tweeds. He's pretty heavy on amps. Mike, his tech, is regularly changing blown speakers, valves etc. He runs them hot.

Neil, you're absolutely tight. Joe runs his tweeds on around 9. Just prior to me taking the pics of Mike above, he'd been swapping out a speaker in one of the high power twins which Joe had blown the night before. It was a Classic Lead 80, who the hell can blow one of those!? Especially when run as a pair in an 80w amp. Joe reckoned he got about 30 shows out of a speaker, then it was toast. I heard he toasted the transformers in a '59 bassman whilst recording the new BCC album too.

No denying, Joe's a cracking player.
I love watching videos where he talks about his gear and technique.

I sometimes find it hard to get through a whole album or to listen to his on-stage banter.

Sometimes he seems a bit pretentious to me.

But overall, I like. The last thing I got of his was the Greek Theater double CD :)

I much preferred the Joe of 10 years back, small venues, low ticket prices and no suits. All credit to him, he's got everyone paying up plenty and enjoying the ride but for me its not a great fan experience. The setlists are dull too....he's heading fast down that old blues rock path and whilst there are some young guys going his audience are predominantly forty-odd plus with a similar amount of hair with a few wives dragged along.....oh and those fifty year old women that follow him around...wtf?
I'd like to see him leave the Kevin Shirley fold and find a fresh producer, its all sounding the same. They have a formula and its working I guess.....but how many more live dvd's etc can we stomach? Just waiting for him to come out with a change, he has so much more in him too, especially playing wise.
