Dan Patlansky (a Spanker of Strats)

Now look here, I am no fan of "blues-rock, or blues/rock" but my mate had a spare ticket so I went to Manchester Deaf Institute to watch this young South African fellow.

I know you have probably seen white men playing the blues on a battered vintage Strat with heavy strings before, but let me tell you that Dan Patlansky is cocking amazing live. An absolute masterclass in how to play a Strat: dynamics, all over the selector switch and volume control, and he's pretty handy with his actual playing too! Band was also great; tight, responsive and all great players.

Also, he plays very few 12-bar blues songs. :)

If you get the chance to see him live, do it. His albums do not do justice to the live experience, especially in a ~120-capacity club.

Saw him supporting Satch. The one-handed playing was very impressive
