The opaque white finish will hide the join. The next consideration is, how much of the original fingerboard remains?

why would any of the fretboard be lost?

personally I would remove and refit it for the best chance of a successful splice and to add some reinforcement.  but I know some do this style of repair with the fretboard still in place
