Weller's new album.

DeadmanDeadman Frets: 3907
A kind revolution.

Here's me sat thinking I'd give it a quick flick through, yawn and consign it to the bin along with everything he's put out since As is now.

Nah.

It's excellent. Honestly. A welcome return to form.

Good show Mr Weller. I'm a happy Jam fan.

I thought it was bloody awful.
    Gimmicky and uninspired.

Oh right. Fair play. I'm just waiting for all my mates to tell me I'm an arsehole for liking it too. I really do dig it though.

When did you listen to it/over what period?

My wife is.. now was.. a huge Weller fan so she's been playing the new album. it's like he's trying to re-invent the Style Council and has lost all his grittyness to MOR.
I loved his old  solo material, but this is so bland. The first track Woo Se Mamma is like  a bad session on Jools and the rest is... yawn.. I think he cares more about how he looks nowadays than the music. Turgid.

    I thought it was wank...

I say that as a massive Weller fan as well. I'd love to say how great it is but for me, ultimately it's a load of bilge. What kind of revolution is it exactly?

There's one song on there that I'd listen to again willingly!

Sounds like every Weller release post-Stanley Rd based on those last few reviews!

I highly rate This is the modern world album. News of the world is my favourite single. I love The Style Council too, so maybe it's just me as I like the 'weaker' stuff.

I haven't listened to the new album yet but Weller always displays taste in everything he does add to that cool guitars (Casino , SG.....) and Wurlitzer electric piano and it ticks the gear box.
Any idea what he uses on the new record?

I like TSC TiTMW and News of The World (Foxton penned that one though).

But for me there's nothing to rate on the new album. The only half decent tune is Satellite Kid and that's only redeemed by the guitar work.

Yep.. cannot believe this new album was written by the same guy who penned 'All The Pictures On The Wall' and 'Sunflower'
    Sad really.
