underrated but sounds great (disclaimer. I have the Waza I've never tried the stock one)

I've not tried the Waza but I think the original would work for OP.

If the BD2 has too much high end grit then an OD3 is kind of similar but fatter and smoother on top.  I think the BD2 has the more interesting texture to it, but the OD3 can be good with single coils.

Well, I'm with you on the price...

Was just curious, as generally reports have been good (unlike the riverside)

Skreddy Screwdriver Deluxe. Loves Strats. I think it's back in production now, but if not, Jed's Peds sell a kit.

Would've recommended the J. Rockett Blue Note personally. Love that pedal.

You get 6 types of dirt pedal, you can stack them in any number of ways or run them in parallel, have a preset on the favourite switch, there's expression output, bright switch, all for £290? Not bad value, I'd say.

I owned the Riverside, and didn't get on with it: the Sunset is so much better. You need to try one/hear it in the room rather than on demos, it's really really good.

To me you've exactly described the Subdecay Liquid Sunshine. Really organic sounding overdrive and doesn't suffer any of the problems you've listed.
