59 Strat on gumtree

What's Hot
Anyone seen this one on gumtree?

I missed out on a 59 strat years ago and never had the cash since.

I saw it, it's on my doorstep (not literally).

I'm not really up on vintage Fender values, but I couldn't spend that much money on a black one.

Agreed - black kills it completely.  If you're gonna do a refin, make it a custom colour like Shoreline gold or something!
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

But as it's been refined already, just do it again in a proper colour.

Sorry to be 'that guy' - but how come the cavities aren't painted?

    So it's a 50's 60's 70's unmolested original repainted Fender Gibson ?

  • I couldn't open the last pic but just did.
Looks like an early 70s body.

I'd rather stick my todger in a wasps nest. Not that I can see if it's right or wrong from those pics, but I've been bitten once with an old strat once before.

Cheaper than a '59 Burst Les Paul which is probably fake as well.

I've got just the right size wasps nest Rob and I'm only asking £4995 with a case. PPG is fine.....

    I'd be sceptical.

Logo font looks slightly suspect, but would need better pics.
And what's that circular route in the control cavity? Almost as if a forstner bit has touched it.

That body ain't right. The contours are much too sharp and also, if the pick up cavities haven't been overpainted there's no pencil date.

I have my 1960 in front of me and the contours are so much softer and rounder. (the body on mine is 11/59 )

I can't be the only person who thinks the words refinish, original and unmolested do not fit together!

Makes me wonder, how many times have these vintage guitars been taken apart and put back together again.

Does that not also interfere with the 'original and unmolested' classification? i.e. it wasn't built by fender, but by the last bloke who screwed it back together again.

im no expert in anything remotely stratish , nor vintage, but that just doesnt look right to me, it looks too "square" on the edges.

    your very welcome :-)
